I think is interesting that as part of his rational for signing Hemmings, Mickey clearly makes the point that "he's here to complement the three strikers that we have at the minute and we've even spoken to Kane about them and he can help us with their development". I think its fair to assume that the three strikers Mickey is refering to would be Nevitt, Jolley and Glatzel which leads me to think Mani Desiwho? is "a gonna" as far as Mickey is concerned, which given his "performances" to date is of little surprise.I
I was thinking of that about Mani D. Clearly Micky doesn’t see him anywhere near the first team - thank god for that!

Without wishing to be unkind you wonder why Mani was signed to start with. He did not come with a great record which has not improved since. NL or NLN seems his future.

as MM said the change in the way the club recruit has changed, does make you wonder who was doing it in the summer but he is an embarrassment of a player

Ironically, Mani is probably the only player recently mentioned in this thread who would not have been of interest to Salford. He played for them last season and they released him.

Think he was signed on the basis of being a target man figure so that we could play a similar shape until the main striker was signed up, but that didn't happen, as we all know. The fact he was one of Beck's agency clients helped.

Good news about Hemmings. I like what those clips of his goals show and the Burton fans seem to have a generally favourable view of him, so hopefully can move us forward.

Ryan Watson leaving is a harder one to call. Sounded like a good signing on paper and a Rovers fan too, but it just hasn't worked out for him. Just been re-reading some of the match reports from the early part of last season and how poor Jay Spearing was in his early games for us, though some suggestion that he'd had covid, but he was allowed to play most of the games and worked his way back into form and by the end of the season a key player for us. Connor Jennings couldn't get a look-in after injury, loaned to Macclesfield came back and did brilliant. I still think there's a decent player in there somewhere, but doesn't look like we'll get to see it. Hope he doesn't go to Salford though.

In fairness, I don't think Spearing has ever been as poor as Watson has been this season.

Perhaps he just suit does not our style of play and is not capable of working as Mellon wants him to. He seems the kind of player that is a bit of a luxury and does not contribute much other than around the eighteen yard box. However, we have not even seen any bursts into the box from him, which is supposed to be his forte. Foley has offered more in that regard.

It was a choice between keeping him and signing Hemmings, it was probably a decision we had to make.

True and Burton as well clearly didn't kick on at Stalybridge which is a shame.

Wasn't Burton their player of the month for October or November? Think he was mainly deployed out wide during his loan spell.

He started well yes but after his loan was extended he ended up on subs bench for the last 2 or 3 weeks of his loan. TBH not sure if it is permissible to extend his contract again but if it was Stalybridge didn't.

Not a shock and will be interesting how he gets on there. A shame but that’s football. I’d be interested in the fee plus what we paid for Hemmings but every transfer seems to be undisclosed these days.

It’ll be a bit of a shock for Ryan having played a bit at PP to go and play for Salford who only had around 1,000 home fans on Tuesday night. The stadium is on a par with Chesters. Good business for us as we got him on a free and have got a fee for him.

Actually it says undisclosed transfer rather than undisclosed fee which seems a bit odd

I would guess the two transfers were more or less neutral financially. Similarly, I would imagine the savings we make on the wages of Walker and Duffy, plus any others who leave, will pretty much cover our contribution to McPake's salary.

In a sense we were lucky that we had a player on high wages who was in reasonable demand that we could offload in order to bring in Hemmings.
