Hard fought point in the end. Happy with that.

A draw probably a fair result in the end. Neither keeper had much to do and whilst we hit the bar they had a couple of half chances. First half after a bright opening we looked fairly toothless with Jolley outmuscled and Nevitt not much better although they combined well for a good chance Nevitt fired over.
The Salford goal was calamitous from Doohan who sliced a volleyed back pass and their lad had a tap in. Credit to Micky for the subs with glatzel heading in and I thought we could go on and win but we didn’t create much else. Again it showed we need more up front especially a physical presence. Jolley and glatzel are too similar and Nevitt is still learning on the job. Foley actually linked play up fairly well but Feeney and McPake were both fairly anonymous. Overall a point was a good result as once we were behind I wasn’t sure we’d get back into it.
MOM for me was OConnor who worked hard and made some good defensive blocks. The only negative was some idiot who threw a flare on the pitch just after we equalised which stopped a bit of momentum we had.
On to a winnable home game on Saturday

Not the prettiest game of football you will see, but we battled hard and defended well and deserved a point. It is slightly frustrating, because aside from Ross's unfortunate error, Salford created very little and we might have nicked the victory. However, a draw was probably a fair result.

I actually thought we were better in the first half than the second, with both Jolley and Nevitt industrious around the eighteen yard box but not quite getting the breaks, in part down to some decent Salford defending. However, after half time both teams went long too often and the game was very scrappy for long periods. I don't think Nevitt's absence helped us, and we struggled to get the ball to stick up front with Foley playing off Jolley. However, I thought Glatzel showed good composure when he came on and did help to settle us and get us playing a bit of football.

I actually disagree with Sparky that the strikers were the issue tonight. I thought all three of them did well and were a handful, Glatzel scoring and Jolley hitting the bar. The issue for me was a lack of quality and creativity in midfield, which is why the potential Morris departure worries me: McPake had a poor game and looks a long way from match fitness, and Hawkes is not our player, and we don't otherwise have a huge amount of creativity in midfield and the wide areas if Morris leaves. I actually thought Feeney had a reasonable game tonight, and was at least more heavily involved than McPake.

I agree that O'Connor had another great game, but my man of the match was Peter Clarke, closely followed by Davies. The pair of them were superb again.

Thanks to Sparky and RLC for the reports. I didn't see the ifollow footage of the game, so reliant on twitter and it didn't seem at h/t that we'd get anything, so a good point.

Good point RLC about Salfords defending - perhaps I was being a bit harsh on the front two. The hosts have a very good defensive record and you can see why. They were physically very good and any long balls suited them (as they did for Clarke and Davies). Nevitt took a bit of a battering and was clattered in the first half which led to his half time replacement.
Creativity was an issue. The two centre mids of Spearing and OConnor are not creative types although Jay has an eye for a pass. McPake could not really get in the game and doesnt look to have any real pace that Hawkes has, but hopefully that will come as he gets fitter.
Feeney continues to divide the SWA. Interestingly he wasn't on set pieces with Speaking taking them. Apparently there were some chants of 'we want Feeney off' but I never heard any. He works hard to be fair and put in one decent cross in the second half but no-one got on the end of it.

Both managers have said it was a scrappy game not for the purists which it was. The ball spent a fair bit of time in the air at times. Agree with RLC that Davies and Clarke were excellent. Tom made a great almost goal saving defensive header in the second half and the amount of headers Clarke wins defending corners and free kicks is uncanny. He is always in the right place at the right time and sticks his head in every time.

Boz, frankly you didn't miss much - the extended "highlights" weren't even that great - the quality on show was pretty poor as MM himself admitted after the game.

Far from a disaster of a result however.
