There was no chance we were going to win the play offs with Hill in charge.
I don’t disagree, although we’ll never know. Confidence was shot in a squad that had no goals left in it, the latter certainly not being entirely of Hill’s making. We were certainly dull to watch once we lost our attacking threat, although still difficult to beat.

To a lesser extent, Mellon’s similarly pragmatic approach to compensating for a lack of goals in the side this season has also drawn criticism, again much of it unfair in my opinion. Fingers crossed, with the improvement of Nevitt, Jolley and Glatzel, we seem to working through it, although I still think we’ll need to bring in another striker for the run in. Is Nugent still available..? ;)

I was one of those who questioned the decision to bring him here.
I was against the appointment from hearing about it to when it came as no surprise after January transfer window, he was being denied funds from up above to strengthen the squad. Which meant the paloi had misjudged the appointment, and wasn't going to extend his temporary basis contract.

The whole season even despite getting to Wembley was an unusual one.
But so was the reason to employ a known ex manager of a rival club, he actually was manager of that club the season before and was overjoyed beating us.....
From the start of that season it was apparent that the financial hit of covid, had had an impact on recruitment and replacing MM.
It did seem that we were taking the cheap option to maintain stability and prevent another relegation.
It didn't start well, then picked up after another manager bit the dust, even though his record with the club was outstanding as first team coach and a player. But it can't be all down to Jacko! , the job in between was fresh air, and not many supporters could believe it, then the appointment of Mr Hill. And it was back to total carnage. With some of the worst football seen at PP.

It was so obvious, that he didn't suit the club or what Rovers are about! Sometimes I really don't think the paloi do either, despite the platitudes. They just don't get it!
what we saw in that season was akin to being worse than when Les was in charge, but at least he told everyone, what he was trying to achieve with ragarse Rovers. He always had the attitude and pride of being a part of the SWA.
but you never saw that with Hill, you see it with MM. And with everything going on before he went to Scotland, I personally would have done a lot more to keep him here.
And apparently, he was allowed to go, but I do believe there wasn't much of a fuss against MM going!
which I found really strange!

Of course, as Johnny Nash sang, There are more questions than answers!!!!!

No doubt is was the minority however I think there were more people than just a small minority on social media. From the supporters I spoke to during the time, they gave him no chance from the start and I would like to believe they are respectable people, not keyboard warriors on twitter.
But unless they were going on social media to attack him, what possible impact could they have had given we were playing behind closed doors ? Palios obviously thought he was justified in sacking him and he was not just responding to a braying mob.

“…completely distorting the facts…………fifty people on Twitter”; apparently contradictory statements there.
Witch hunts were/are perpetrated by misguided, often unhinged individuals (even if only a temporary loss of capacity) or groups and are not defined by number of participants. If you’re denying the witch hunt that’s your prerogative and you may well interpret the definition differently, but my experience was different in the world outside of this platform and can only echo what Ian has stated earlier. I believe Hill’s treatment met the definition of a witch hunt and I’m sticking by it. I’d feel for my worst enemy (not that I have any as I’m an amicable chap in the real world ) if they were on the receiving end of some of the bile Hill received right from the off-set; he was just a football manager, not “agent Hill”, unique in some of his ways, trying to get us promoted (pure speculation to say he’d have never got us through the play-offs; unlikely maybe but never say never). I’m just glad the majority of games were played behind closed doors as it would have been toxic from some (it only takes a few to make it mightily uncomfortable for the majority).
I agree that he showed humility in his post match statement yesterday and have never had any malice towards him and wish him luck now we’ve thumped them.

We will have to agree to disagree. However, what you have not explained is why Palios felt justified in sacking him ? Unless you think he just responds to toxic social media opinion (not a very flattering view of our chairman) rather than making informed decisions, you have to agree that he thought it was necessary to fire him for footballing reasons.

I am glad Hill was removed and Mellon returned, and I can't say the club has exactly suffered for it.

But, isn't that what NP has done quite a few times, then deleted the tweets?I
One was the excess payments for ifollow,
Season tickets, to name but two!

And MP had to retweet, some tweets, that were a knee jerk reaction to a decision by the football clubs and league.
And if my memory serves me right about, artificial pitches!

And I seem to remember NP saying on Twitter about 'a typical Tranmere Rovers supporters response ' Following something criticising a decision. That was toxic, and disturbing.

Sorry about the ambiguity, but as I have said before, the Paloi are not innocent in some of the aspects of running the club, and again, it is not their fault!

Because he lost trust in him. Hill’s references in that final interview about recruitment, and especially about the demotion, would have surely incensed the owners and left his position untenable. But for that, and despite everything else, I believe he’d have been in charge for the playoffs. Although probably not beyond that, especially with Mellon then becoming available.

Yeah, his last interview was an absolute train wreck and almost bitter in tone. I think with the way the season had almost pettered out, the indifference with the fans (which must have been having some effect as MP mentioned it in one of his facebook sessions) it was just the final straw really. The tone was not the same and the relationship with the supporters. Look at it now we have MM back, we are on a high again and the season is turning into a very good one so like RLC says, it worked out for the best anyway.

as long as we bring more quality in. But that depends on the cash. I believe together is enough for a couple depending on how much. We have no room for L oanees unless Ha wkes doesn't come back.

Micky said on Thursday we can bring more players in without having to move some out, although I do expect some to leave.
You make it sound line we have no money for the squad when it is not true.

He lost trust in him largely because of events on the pitch.

Trust became irretrievably broken when he publicly undermined his own chairman by his references to recruitment and, particularly, the demotion. As soon as he did so he was toast. Brabin signed his own P45 in a similar manner.

A manager MIGHT just survive that when doing so from a position of supreme strength - say, romping the league and being universally popular - although I’m not sure MP would accept that from anyone under any circumstance.

Although events on the pitch clearly left him exposed, there were enough mitigating circumstances around all that to suggest he’d have still been in charge for the playoffs. It was his outbursts against the owners in that final interview that did him.

I was saying that because I had not heard of the £400K investment.
Obviously, this investment will be spent on quality players or am I a bit naive?

We have no way of knowing if that investment was from the sale of River Hill and so is in fact being used to retire expensive debt or is more Indonesia money. Originally MP had said in the accounts proceeds from sale of Riverhill would be interest free debt from him replacing other debt. Maybe in the end he decided to put in as equity? As such I think we have to assume that it may not be budget related or may be used to cover cash shortfalls.

He would have been fired in the summer regardless.

My gut feeling regarding the £400k is that it is not new investment, but is effectively the reclassification of Palios's debt.

If I remember correctlyy, Riverhill was bought as a separate entity than Rovers. So wouldn't that mean they were investing that money in the club?
Aren't the clubs financial shareholders report a season behind?
And didn't that report have the club's value increased by having the assets revalued?

I'm sure it's somewhere, but how many shares have the Malaysians got now, percentage wise?

The Riverhill is owned privately by MP and I don't think the club has received any of the proceeds. It seems he has simply converted his debt in the club to capital, now that he has received the cash from the sale of the hotel.

Not sure why there’s a need for me to explain why Palios felt justified in sacking him (that’s entirely up to him) as it was never part of my point and I never alluded to Palios responding to social media opinions; for the record, I have the utmost respect for Mark (and Nicola), his decisions and his running of the club. I do, however, believe it was indeed an informed decision, based on a combination of reasons, that resulted in Hill’s sacking, regardless of if I’m way off the mark (no pun intended), but we‘ll never know the full story.
Definitely time to move on though and agree to disagree (a saying that reminds me of and has similar connotations to the adage “with all due respect”).
