Takeover now complete by Saudis, arguably now the richest club in the world now.

I am not one for politics really in sport, but they have an awful human rights record and think it's not a good thing for English football

Just when we think it'll all implode, it seem to get further and further away.. where does it end?

Not a peep from the fans, many of whom probably don’t know where Saudi Arabia is or what their regime is like. After 66 years of failure, they just want a trophy. Frankly, I am appalled but how would our fans have reacted if the Saudis had approached PJ ten years ago? Yes, Mart, football and politics don’t mix but only because most fans aren’t interested in politics.

Fair comment BBTC. Fans do not give a toss as long as the team does well. Will take time though to rebuild the squad after presumably replacing Bruce. At least he will not have the same fate as Kharshoggi. Sportswashing is what they are doing I believe. Unlikely to be many women at friendly games in Saudi!

There would have been considerable concerns raised, as there were when a number of other dubious characters tried to buy the club in that period. The culture at this club is very different to that of the Premier League.

I agree and would hope PJ would have not been in favour. Given the due diligence he went through with Mark and Nicola, he was being very circumspect about who the new owners should be. That said, fans are fans. You and I might have been horrified, but I think most fans would have been delighted.

Barney Ronay usually writes an interesting article.

Brilliant, no punches pulled article. This paragraph sums it up for me.
In this light the comparison with Ashley, the assumption that Newcastle has finally found its prince, seems to involve a degree of cognitive dissonance. Infuriating tracksuit vendor v blood-stained dictatorship. Zero-hours sport-shop contracts v beheading 37 people in a single day. Hiring Dennis Wise v bombing Yemen. Is it really obvious that one of these – the beheading one – is so much more desirable than the other?

I am not sure most fans would be in favour.

I think it is easy to turn a blind eye to the non footballing goings on. In Newcastles situation, they have been starved of any kind of success for years so I’m sure the majority are excited by the developments.

Some of the fans were interviewed on our international news programme and they were certainly not bothered!
