Yes, interesting that he mentioned the mental toll on the players, which is why I think today's performance was magnificent.

He also singled out Lee O'Connor who, although he was partly culpable for the goal, saw off Matt Jay with his man-to-man marking job.

It is only us and Forest Green from the top 7 who play on Tuesday so it's a big chance for us

A good win considering we got thrashed at their place and we currently lack a real striker. At the risk of stating the obvious, we just have to keep plugging away and to get wins any which way. Colchester are another team desperate for points so let us hope that we take any chances that come our way on Tuesday. Another 0-0 would not be ideal. We do have the same problem as many teams at our level that there is not much scope for squad rotation beyond, say, 13/14 players. Therefore, our first team just have to tough it out physically in what is a shortened season.

we have to take this on to Tuesday and go again, but I would give the lads Sunday off and Monday if poss surely they have done the work for Colchester already it would make sense even I have to work a week ahead of what is coming up

Yeah. If we both win that will be three teams on 64 points. A real battle for those auto places I would say!

Good interview with Keith and I just knew he wouldn’t be able to resist mentioning some of the fans comments after the Grimsby game!
Keith is more of a philosopher than Micky, but a lot more prickly at times. When he opens up - like about player fatigue - he is very interesting. Too many managers just trot out clichés so you don’t learn a lot.

Different styles. Micky knew how to keep the SWA onboard and rarely criticised, he was fairly economical with his words. Keith talks a lot, much of it is interesting and informative, though perhaps he should rein in some of the implied criticism of the supporters.

Yes, it is harsh to be critical of Mellon's communication which was first rate, and definitely helped him to ride periods of poor form. Mellon always seemed to have both players and supporters in mind in his interviews, whereas Hill only seems concerned about protecting his players and is less interested in supporter engagement.

Mellon is certainly someone who thinks seriously about the game, as his recent book demonstrates.

I'm also convinced he thinks a lot of supporters don't like him (if they don't want me here, i'll go). Sadly it's only the keyboard warriors that get noticed. It's also very difficult to gauge how he would be in a social environment. Micky was very good in these situations and with supporters but because of COVID we haven't had the chance to really engage with KH. It's all through social media and computer screens, something KH is not overly fond of anyway.

Hopefully we will get a better sense of Keith when something close to normality returns and people can interact personally. Not easy otherwise to get a true picture of a person.

Too many of them after over 50 years!
From what I have seen, I'd happily socialise with Keith - passionate about football and genuinely gets on with people in the real world. A no-nonsense type person who says what he thinks and doesn't play politics. One of my past roles was to do with organisational change management and the people aspect was always the hardest part as regards changing behaviour. In my opinion, It is impossible to change the behaviour of keyboard warriors who receive no consequence for anti-social behaviour (unless, of course, it breaks the Government's 'hate-crime' rules). Even if promotion doesn't happen, I think Keith deserves a chance to mould a team for next season. I think it would be catastrophic to bring in yet another manager who wants to 'start again'.

As I have said previously, unless we collapse completely between now and the end of the season, I think Hill will be here next year.

However, one area where he is an unknown quantity and I do have some concern is recruitment. We recruited poorly in January in my opinion and, for all his faults, Jacko did demonstrate he had a talent in this area and shaped a very good squad last summer.

However, Hill did build successful sides at Rochdale from scratch, which suggests he must have some ability to mould a squad.

You can only recruit who is available at the time and for the funds available. And one (Jolley) is for the future. And a leap of faith has to be taken at times based on what has been observed by whomsoever has done the scouting. We will get a better idea of recruitment capability once things get back to a semblance of normality.

It is arguable that we would have been better off keeping hold of some of the players we released, as the January recruits have not offered any more (to date). Jolley was bought for the future but the others were not, and none have featured regularly, aside from Nugent who has not convinced.

As I said, Hill's recruitment is an 'unknown' at present and we will only discover more over the summer.
