Rovers' first game of 2021 and we are up against The U's who are sharing very similar fortunes to our own this season. Colchester are sitting just above us in 12th with a point more whilst we have a game in hand. Their recent form however has been poor having not won for four games with their last victory coming against Scunthorpe in early December. What Rovers team will turn up for this one? and will KH be tinkering with the side again?

Let's hope we go in with a more positive mind set as this game is winnable with the players we have.

I think we played pretty well in the first half at Barrow and I would start with the same side, save for Lloyd or Khan replacing Lewis and O'Connor starting at right back (a crazy notion I know...).

Colchester play more football than Barrow and the pitch should be in better condition, so it is a match that should suit our technical players more than Tuesday night.

We need a ninety minute performance, and a victory in all honesty.

can we just play with no ties let the lads express themselves and play good football, and not playing for the point a win would be nice? but I have trouble believing what Hill is saying at the moment just got no fire, hope I am proved wrong

Did Lewis play badly at Barrow? I don't think Khan offers enough defensively in central midfield, Lloyd might give them enough to think about. Agree about O'Connor and move Macdonald back to the left.

Colchester managed what we were hoping for in the summer, a relatively seamless take-over by their assistant manager, Steve Ball. However, they don't seem to have become a more attacking force in the process, which was one of the reasons McGreal was replaced.

Yes, very poorly. I don't think we should be worrying too much about the opposition in a game against a mid table side. We need to get on the ball in midfield and cause them problems, and our passing movements are generally better when Kahn / Lloyd are in the side rather than Lewis, in my opinion.

We're a mid-table side too though, so important not to let the opposition gain early ascendancy given we're not that good at coming from behind.

True, but we have only won once in five games and have a poor home record, so we need to win a match pretty soon. We generally perform better when we take the initiative.

I've no idea of how we will line up & struggling to pick a winner so gone for a draw.

Likewise. We need to focus on causing the opposition problems so for me that means a more attacking attitude. And yes, O'Connor in at right back with Macdonald switching to the left. In fact I'd rather have ano right footer at right back than a left footer. It's a weird situation to be in since the vast majority of the population are right side dominant. It would be more fathomable if we were struggling for a left footed left back!

I remember when the fixtures came out trying to work out the most likely first fixture I would be able to get to. At the time, I thought this one might be. Just shows what an optimist I can be! Now I'm thinking not which game but which season I'll be able to watch Rovers again in the south-east.

It doesn't seem nearly two years since my last trip to Colchester, when we were unstoppable on the way to the playoffs. Starting the new year in a positive frame of mind, I'm going for a repeat result, 2-0.

I would make these changes - Murphy and O'Connor in and McDonald back to LB. Khan in and maybe LLoyd also in midfield. Would have Burton on bench - think he should be given an opportunity if we are struggling - he looked good in his cameo and Ferrier I am still unconvinced by.
As to the result this is the sort of game we should be winning - however I think Hill will probably come for a point however and set us up defensively so maybe 1-1.

Yes agree with ADD that Hill would probably take a point as we’re away from home. However it would be another game without a win so to ease some of the pressure we need a victory

Only two of our players displaying symptoms, we had agreement from the EFL that it could go ahead but now it has been suspended.

What a mess.

We have such a big squad why is it off with only 2 having symptoms? Incase others have it and are symptomatic?

It seems Colchester refused to play. I don't know how many, if any, of their players have Covid.

According to our OS, we have two players with symptoms but we wanted the game to go ahead and so did the EFL. The statement finishes tersely with "no further comment". U's Twitter account says both squad had Covid symptoms.

Reading between the lines, I think TRFC are far from happy. They will have travelled and would be able to field a strong team.

How many games are getting called off for virus issues? What are the chances we won't finish this season on schedule - if at all?

An hour before kick off. Doesn't seem right to me.

Seems like Colchester also having issues too.

I would not mind if the season was cancelled in Leagues One and Two to be honest. The whole experience has been pretty weird and miserable and clubs at our level can't afford the measures taken higher up to ensure games go ahead.
