A firm statement. It only demonstrates how dismissive the EFL are of smaller clubs. An utter disgrace, not the Parry cares. We are sufficiently unimportant for one of his clearly devious minions to deal with.

The Salford situation only reinforces the dangers of following a hobby club. Scholes as acting Manager! Just funny if it was not serious.

I see that the EFL CEO, Dave Baldwin, has resigned after only four months. Reading between the lines, it seems that Covid made it all too hard. I doubt if the Tranmere situation had much to do with it but his discomfort will have translated itself to some of his men. Clearly, whoever drafted their press release did not realise that someone was in a very active dialogue with Rovers. Obviously the chain of command is broken when this sort of thing occurs.

I think the EFL are more interested in the attached rather than our situation. More power to the top clubs in return for the EFL receiving TV money. How they would distribute that is another thing.

Just read that Dale Vince in favour so it must be bad...

The bottom line is that something has to be done or a lot of communities particularly in poorer areas (the north in particular) are going to lose their clubs. Covid has only brought to a head a situation that has been developing for years. Money has to come down the pyramid and not just be stuck in the Premier League and those teams in the Championship getting big parachute payments. It could be argued that if the PL are giving a big chunk to the EFL then it might encourage a more careful approach to finance there and reduce the ridiculous sums paid to top players. It will not be a level playing field but a little less pear shaped than it is now!

There probably needs to be tweaks in the arrangements but fundamentally the proposal is a step in the right direction. We can all jump up and down about the wealthy clubs exerting their financial clout but that is reality and we want our club to survive and prosper. We are lucky that we have Mark and Nicola but when they are no longer there?

The problem is not that it needs tweaks it's the fact that 6 clubs will have all the power and will vote through whatever they want, I'm sure including reducing money they wish to pay to lower leagues.

The money on offer is very much needed at this level there is no getting away from that but it's the bigger picture that needs looking into.

If we don't sort out the money in the lower leagues soon, this nonsense may well become a reality.

Thanks Bigmart. One tweak I was thinking about was the six club issue. You know, I have always thought that the idea of a European Super League was all talk and fantasy. I think that this is likely to be more of a reality if the deal is knocked back. There are clearly advantages in it for them as for many others. There is the risk that they will say - fair enough and off they go and they will take all the big money with them. If you added up the 6 English clubs plus two from Germany, Italy, France and Spain you have 14. Maybe another 4 and you have the 18 team league they are talking about. Interesting times!

It would be better for the rest of English football if they did clear off and form a European League. The other clubs could finally live sustainably, free of their interference.

There is nothing charitable about this proposal and it is not motivated by concern for the lower divisions. It is the exploitation of the EFL clubs at a time when they are at their most vulnerable; a short term bung in return for relinquishing control of their own destiny.

The Chairman of Leyton Orient gives clubs many smaller clubs six weeks. I am not convinced that English football would be better off, The greater majority of clubs dd not make money even before Covid and that situation would not change even if the clubs in question did clear off, however emotionally satisfying that might be. The reaction from many clubs down the pyramid has been positive. They see it as a way of surviving. Sure we might not like it but needs must. Still, as always time will tell!

I can quite imagine the Glazers sat at home thinking up ways of helping Tranmere Rovers financially rather than taking more money out of the club they own.

The lower divisions are well supported and are sustainable. It is the wage inflation caused by the Premier League clubs that makes them unsustainable.

It seems highly unlikely any of this will come to fruition but the way we got shafted last season and as recent as last week, I have no faith in football governing bodies anymore as their interests are not ethical and seem purely financial. I guess you could argue this has been the case since the 'Premier League ' was formed but it's getting ugly now.

I gather that there is overwhelming support within the EFL for the proposal which fixes the immediate financial problem and makes the future more secure with 25% of the TV money going to the EFL.. However, the deal will probably fail as it is seen, quite rightly, as a power grab by the big clubs and the other Premier League clubs will oppose it. I am quite sure that the chairmen of many EFL clubs could not give a hoot about that. They just want the money to survive now and to have a more stable future. What the PL does is irrelevant to them otherwise. See what happens.

What's even more outrageous is that last week TPG an American equity fund apparently offered to buy 20% of the EFL. Similar deal to what happened with CVC also a US equity fund buying into Premiership rugby. Approach rejected by Parry without even being put to members apparently. Now we know why.
Not saying US equity funds are definitely a good idea but just dismissing out of hand is not how any business should be run.

I see the PL are putting 50m in while everyone thinks about what to do next!
Looking further at what is currently proposed, it would seem that L2 would get around 17m split about 7m in grants and 10m in loans of some sort.
The Big Picture Project has quite rightly been knocked back but perhaps Liverpool and United knew that would happen. Now the entire PL is talking about the future funding of football. There has to be more sharing down the pyramid of the TV money in the longer term. Many smaller teams will struggle for years after Covid given the impact it has had.

The EFL have rejected the 50m. I give up!
