The key has to be government support. They have to print a lot of money or not only clubs but the businesses built around them will die. Areas around grounds will become economic wastelands. As Nicola says on the BBC website we are better off than most but failure could be only weeks away for some clubs. The ineffectual Elton and Oxford mob need to step up if that is possible.

I cannot see how clubs would survive all season with no crowds.

The fact that the government think this should happen shows how out of touch they are. It’s not “football’s problem”. Football is a highly fractured industry. But no chance the Tories will do anything to reform it.

However, it is absurd that no financial assistance whatsoever has been offered by the EPL / FA to the lower divisions and grass roots game.

I am all for public assistance for cultural and sporting institutions, but there is a strong moral case for Premier League clubs contributing to an emergency fund, even if there is not a legal one. Why should the taxpayer pick up the tab when there is so much surplus money swilling round at the top of the game ?

One option would be for the government to levy a windfall tax on the Premier League clubs and distribute the proceeds among the lower division clubs.

I don't disagree, but can't see there is much hope of the current government taking action of this nature, as BBTC says.

I do not disagree re the PL clubs although they have their own issues now following this further delay. As we found with our demotion it will be every club for themselves whatever level they are! That is neoliberalism for you. Dog eat dog and devil take the hindmost! All very sad.
Dover have said they will probably fail in a couple of weeks.

if the LG was closed early again all the more important that we pick points up fast just so we are not in the same position as last season, dare we take a chance on it happening again. we have been points just to make sure

There is no formula in place for the season ending early.

If the season is postponed with less than half of the games played, I would imagine it would simply be abandoned.
