Based upon the last few seasons it looks like 15 plus strikers at league 2 level are rarer than hens teeth, unless teams unearth a gem, there is little that filters down this low these days.

i think our strikers are all capable at this level if they stay fit, and they certainly dont seem to be any worse than the players for the supposed promotion favourites

I am not sure that Ferrier and Payne have the goalscoring record at this level of, say, Doyle at Bolton, Henderson at Salford or Maynard at Mansfield. I would put Vaughan in the same bracket as those strikers, but not the other two.

With Vaughan, if he stays fit (and isn't deployed as a lone striker) he's well capable of hitting 15 goals. If the wind is right, Payne might be, but Ferrier's never struck me an an out and out striker. However there are attributes he has in terms of physical strength and pace which the other two lack and at this late stage, it's better for us to keep him than try to bed someone in on salary cap wages with little preparation.

Yes, I agree. I was not really commenting on Ferrier, more that there are gradations in the ability of forwards at this level, as in any division.

Vaughan looked excellent in the few weeks before COVID kicked in. He should be looking to get at least 15, hopefully 20+ if he has a good injury free run.

Yes. Largely dependent on service of course.

I am not sure there is really any intention to use Vaughan as a lone striker in League matches. Last season he was always deployed in a front two, and in the Preston game I think we used that system purely so we could pack the midfield against superior opponents.

Ferrier going not the end of the world. Keeping Vaughn fit a must and the underated Payne is a decent deputy, but maybe not the perfect foil for Vaughn if playing two up top. They're not really target men I know, but not that hard to find and mark.....where as a Dagnall type, albeit a cheaper budget version might be a better foil for two up front. Easier said than done.

I think we will start with 1 up front with 2 wide and 3 in central midfield.

That might be more effective against League Two teams where we have more possession of the ball, rather than sides like Preston and Burnley.

Funny you say that. Apparently he’s a big fan of Michael Jackson and didn’t realise he was now a football manager. He’s sure Michael would have enough money to pay his salary. ;)

Agreed. The pink one is dire.
Does the club not have any say in these things?! I know I am old fashioned but the simple green one was always fine for me! They are not fashion garments surely?
