Total lack of creativity in the midfield and Vaughan, rightly getting frustrated, with absolutely NO service whatsoever

PNE commentary makes me laugh. They’ve refused to mention ‘Blackpool‘ specifically but keep referring to the ‘team on the coast’!

No threat whatsoever except some runs down the left from CBT. Subs to come on shortly.

Payne on for Vaughan and capiltilises on a defensive mistake to be one on one but keeper saves it. By far and away our best chance of the game and a poor finish.

2nd half has been much improved, although defensively we still look all over the place with people diving in left right and centre.

A good result against a very good Championship side that beat Salford 3-1 at the weekend. I look forward to watching the replay of the game later.

I think people need to bear in the mind the quality of the opposition when criticising the display. Preston were always going to control possession for long periods; they only narrowly missed out on the Championship play offs last season.

Shouldn't be as Nicola tweeted about it
"Yes - to keep the numbers of people in the stadium to a minimum, and keep costs down it was agreed that only one stream would be provided. They have promised to try to provide neutral commentary though"
Ah right, I had not seen that. I assumed we were showing it as well from the earlier announcements.

I wonder if Warrington said the same the other day......

the result really doesnt matter, and the lads certainly had a work out running after the ball for the whole of the first half and then giving it straight back to Preston when they won it back. Perhaps that was the plan, to build up the fitness like an attack v defence training scenario :)

Preston have got superior players so, yes, we would expect to be chasing the ball for long periods. One of the reasons for choosing friendlies against higher level teams is to improve fitness off the ball.

I have seen plenty of comments elsewhere which suggest it was a decent display.

And yes, I am sure Warrington were happy with their performance at the weekend. Why would not they be ?

Funny how suddenly when we draw with a Championship club with a late equaliser it is a good result even though after the first two friendlies many were saying results don't matter pre-season!!
Personally, I thought we were pretty poor today although fitness was good. Yes the opposition is far superior but I just don't get the play one up front tactic - all we did was give it straight back. Nors could play that role - Vaughan patently can't and didn't he make it obvious!! No link play and at sixes and sevens at the back.
Thought the new fullbacks did ok. Banks was awfully off the pace - might just be fitness but worrying. Khan gave the ball away for their goal and didn't stand out apart from that. Spearing by contrast looked like he was ready to go now. Lewis did ok when he came on. That said I wouldn't be surprised if Danns is offered a deal based on that midfield today.
Finally credit to Payne - he stayed positive all last season despite being frozen out and looked up for it today. Yes missed a 1 on 1 but so did Nors countless times and great anticipation for the goal.
Looking forward to hear what Jacko thought - given we can all watch this one...

Watched the game in full after the event when I got in from work. Very much a more questions than answers kind of showing from Rovers. Vaughan isn't suited to a lone striker role and although he can bemoan the lack of service, there was one occasion in the second half when CBT broke away and there was absolutely nobody to pass too, either Vaughan or another supporting midfielder. Defensively the organisation was lacking but I thought we threw bodies in the way or made enough tackles/blocks to largely get away with it. There were some good performances, Morris was popping up everywhere and Spearing did a good job as defensive midfielder, while Payne looked more capable as a lone striker than Vaughan when he came on. Think we've got another friendly against Burnley, but could do with another game against a non-league side to hone the attacking part of our game.

Well, if Saturday's result was the disaster some people claimed, surely this was a triumph....

I thought it was a good performance. Preston dominated the ball in the first half, but aside from a five minute spell leading up to their goal, they did not cut through us. I thought we looked well drilled defensively, which was important after Saturday, and the shape of the side was good throughout. Both centre halves were solid and I thought Monthe was excellent, arguably our best player.

The players had clearly been told to show more belief on the ball at half time, and in the second half we played some good stuff, moving the ball crisply at times. Preston continued to create more chances but there did not look an enormous gulf between the sides, and the equaliser was deserved.

I was impressed by most of the new signings. Kahn looked very comfortable on the ball and was creative, playing a great through ball to Vaughan in the first half which was judged off side. Spearing had an impressive range of passing and seemed to get stronger as the game went on. Lewis was tidier on the ball than I expected. Both full backs looked capable and MacDonald's distribution was good.

Vaughan did struggle on his own up front but he is completely unsuited to the role. I am sure we were only using him that way in a 451 because of the strength of the opposition, and he will play in an orthodox front pairing in League Two.

Plenty of positives to take from that showing.
