Agree with this. In some ways it feels like a pretty good representation of being a long term TRFC supporter; we have never done highs and lows by half measure!
It is incredible that we could be the only club in the top four divisions to significantly lose out.

There are all sorts of suggestions doing the rounds, we will have to sit tight and wait to see what happens

I see Nigel slough has left burton, looking at their statement it looks due to financial reasons, jake Buxton is player/manager

Basically because they can't afford to keep him on.

If only we had spent money we did not have like numerous other clubs, we might not be getting relegated......

A great broadcast by MP on the website tonight.

He is proposing promotions but no relegations and it is clear he will fight tooth and nail to keep us in League One.

Yes I saw it RLC.Was a good explanation I felt. Also interesting to see NP's comment that of the 4 teams in the relegation places at same point last year 3 of the 4 stayed up!!
Also MP seemed to suggest if we had to he would favour carrying on as per PL and Championship

I'd always got the impression Burton were a fairly well-run club.

They probably are, but they were still clearly spending beyond their means or they would not have had to offload Clough so quickly. A legacy of their Championship days I would imagine.

In League One I think only a handful of clubs genuinely live within their means - ourselves, Accrington, Wimbledon.

Excellent idea and something I suggested back in April in this very thread. Great minds think alike. That or he spends too much time on White Review !

I can't see this being agreed, the league and fa have already said they want rekegation

Yes, it was a very carefully argued announcement. It’s the basis of a way forward, given that League Two suggested the principle. I’m not sure I agree with having playoffs, but that’s fairer than playing the season to a conclusion where mid-table sides would play weakened teams. At least the playoffs would be competitive and should generate income form TV.

I think League One might vote the same way but it would require the Championship to expand by up to three clubs. They might not agree, but hopefully the EFL and the FA will exert some pressure.

If you extend the playoffs to allow everyone with a chance of promotion to compete, the there is an equally strong argument for relegation playoffs to give the likes of us a fair crack of the whip.

It is just an opening gambit for a discussion. Relegation in some form probably will happen, but the decision could be between promoting a fourth team from League Two (even if the play offs don't take place) and preserving our League One status, with Southend and Bolton going down.

It looks like it is a straight vote between PPG and finishing the season. PPG will probably get a majority.

It seems other alternatives are not on offer.

I think PPG will get a large majority. If they are the only two options it is all over for us.

As the PL have to finish the season to avoid even bigger TV rebates than they already face then their season will probably not finish until sometime in July,. Same with the Championship? Then, they will want to start the next season a little later. Will L1and L2 have to wait for them for a same weekend start for all?
PPG does have the advantage that player contracts do not have to be extended, which is a more significant issue in L1and L2. At least if we are better off financially than many other clubs, despite the lack of income over the last few months, then perhaps we will have more clout when it comes to signings for 20-21. Thus, if we are relegated we might have a strong chance of bouncing straight back. Mind you player wages generally might fall. A lot of unknowns!

I agree drwhoman that there are so many imponderables about how things will be going forward. We’ve only got about 7 players contracted to next season and two Ray and Payne are largely out of first team contention. So another rebuilding exercise in whatever league we end up in.
