I personally think relegating clubs with the fixtures incomplete, with all the financial consequences that flow from that, would be open to legal challenge.
Agreed. I don’t think you can fairly relegate a club without a complete fixture list. That would be especially hard to take as we were stopped in our best form of the season too.

The latest suggestion is that current points per game will be used, which seems the worst of all options to me. If that is the system they go with, we will be relegated, unless only three teams come up from League Two. I personally think relegating clubs with the fixtures incomplete, with all the financial consequences that flow from that, would be open to legal challenge. Hopefully it won't happen.
I don't really see the point in voiding the season or going with a points per game system, need to sit tight and wait till the worst is over, I personally think the season should be finished

I think the problem arises if the 20-21 season can't be completed in full. It is easier for lower division clubs to lose the income from four or five home games this season, than ten to twenty next season. If next season is truncated as well, a lot of clubs will struggle to survive.

If the lockdown ends in July it may be tempting to scrap this season and start afresh in August. However, I think it’s unlikely they will be ready by then. So what if football can’t start until say October? No time to finish 2020/21 anyway. They might as well finish 2919/20 and organise a shortened programme for 2020/21.

If the 20-21 season started in September / October it could still be completed if the cup competitions were reduced in size or scrapped. I am not sure you could shorten the season to the extent that it could be completed in five or six months, having already completed the 19-20 season.

I can see the League Cup going but not the Champions League or the FA Cup. Anyway, let’s agree to differ and what to see when football actually does recommence.

My actual preference would be to take the opportunity to prune the leagues to a manageable size, but that’s not going to happen.

I think that would be the beginning of the end for lower division football. Clubs at our level need 46 games per season to survive financially, plus which historic clubs would have to make way at the bottom of League Two ?

We have the biggest divisions in the world. I'd cut EFL divisions down to 20 or 22 and form a League Three using some of the top NL clubs. I'd also have three up, three down for the top five tiers. A 46-game season plus cups takes its toll on players.

The current system has served us well for sixty years and I would not tamper with it. The formation of a League Three would dilute the Football League and damage it's credibility in my view. I don't agree that we play too many games, and as I have said, clubs like us need to play a relatively large number of games for financial reasons. We have the biggest divisions in the world because we have the biggest, most historic and best league. More people watch the National League than the second tier in many other European countries.

I just noticed that in that online competition that has been running we lost 7-0 to Peterborough..... Some things never change, pandemic or no pandemic.

I do remember us BEATING them 7-0 (replayed match after our floodlights failed). If I remember correctly I saw 3 x 7 goal drubbings within a fortnight; us against Peterborough and Bangor (FA Cup replay) and Liverpool against York. I was sharing a house in Liverpool at the time (student) and took one of my housemates to see the original Posh fixture that was abandoned. He was no footie fan and this was the very first match he had every been to! Talk about bad luck! I wonder if he ever went to another one?

I remember all of those games, although I don't think I saw any of them. Those were the days when I did not have enough pocket money to go to every match. I think Bangor was actually the year before the Peterborough game, and a certain Mark Palios scored in that match. I remember being in the middle of a riot in the main stand in the next round against Hull.

Showing my age a bit then, and the memory does play tricks!

I think the Bangor game was when we had clarke and Clayton up front, the Peterborough game I think could have been in the Frank Worthington days

Yes, that is right. The Peterborough game was Ian Muir's first season, 85-86, and I think he scored a hat trick in that match.

I think this is going to be a right mess when football does eventually return. Not only do we have the uncertainty of where we will be next season but a lot of clubs are going to struggle financially.
Just how are football club’s generating income at the moment? Online merchandise sales is one avenue I guess. There are no matches, events, meetings, hiring of rooms. Nothing.
