While a huge disappointment, this can't be a shock to any of us. Frankly, I'm quite relieved. I had hoped to go to the Wimbledon and Gillingham games, but was already having second thoughts as my age and medical conditions put me in the high risk category.

Thankfully, our club looks safe financially - at least for the time being - but some others will really suffer and will need help to survive.

I agree with ONIGP that it's doubtful the season will finish any time soon. I think a good move would be to postpone the Euros until 2021. If football resumes in April, the season could then be extended. If not, players will not be in any state to compete after such a long lay-off.

I think we need to brace ourselves for a long period without our favourite game. This would raise all sorts of issues about the integrity of the various competitions. Perhaps what could happen is that we simply restart where we left off and finish the current season when the virus has subsided, whether that is April (highly unlikely), August or next year (quite possible). It would be problematic, but might be the least worst option.

BBTC you must prioritise staying safe. I agree entirely with your post. As you say it would be problematic but so would any other solution. There are a 1.000,001 practical issues that would need dealing with and no doubt plenty will give the opportunity for legal challenges. The suspension is a massive statement and once it filters down to 30 players, 2 men and a dog at NLN level it becomes difficult to justify any kind of gathering of people in any walk of life.

yes while it is a disruption the over-riding issue is we ALL stay safe (I can see the paint brushes coming out) lets hope we stay fit & well and are all able to re-group whenever we are able to start again

In a few weeks time, the virus is likely to be at a peak, unsure why 3rd April chosen as the current cut off point. Inevitable it will get extended

I agree with the other comments about the need to keep healthy being more important than football and wish everyone posting and reading here good health.

I think the simplest solution would be to expunge this season from the records. Unless matches can resume before the end of April, which seems unlikely, it is difficult to see how the season could be completed before players ' contracts run out at the end of June. If the season was delayed beyond that point, there would be a knock on effect for future seasons which would probably make the situation worse.

I agree with this but it is unprecedented and who knows what the outcome will be, the league have given themselves 3 weeks thinking time, what will happen after that is anybodies guess

A possible issue about expunging this season, is how to adjust for Bury’s demise. Think they’d have to find a means of adjusting so that there is a full compliment of sides in L1 etc

I think we would just start again with 23 clubs in League One, and then adjust at the end of 2020-21.

There are no simple solutions to this. If this season is expunged and the emergency ends next January (as an example), when would football recommence? Would we have to wait until August 2021? Surely, in that case some way could be found to start football earlier and finish this season. On the other hand, if the all clear comes in June, maybe starting afresh in August would be best.

Personally, I believe in fair play and would like to finish the season, if at all possible. I say this knowing that TRFC would probably benefit from a cancellation of the season. We are a richer club than twelve months ago and better able to compete. Bolton would also surely benefit. Although the 12-point penalty could be imposed again, they would be able to afford a better squad and with a full pre-season, they would probably survive. The main losers would be the poorer clubs like Accrington and Rochdale, who would really be up against it.

In practice, I think it is too early to make any such decisions. However, there is every reason to have a debate about this, involving the fans, so that an informed decision about can be made in the fullness of time.

One possibility could be that if no more games are played the season ends and the positions stay as they are, whatever decision is made it is likely to be contraversial

It’s really hard to say at the moment as we don’t know how long this is going to last. If the postponement is only for a few weeks then we’re all having a winter break. Any longer and it becomes complicated.

I am not sure how that could work, when teams have not played the same number of games and there are no promotions or relegations that have been confirmed mathematically.

There would be legal challenges galore.

We featured on BBC Breakfast and Football Focus this morning.

Very clever of Palios to use this situation to get us publicity.

We stand to lose £300k from the home games with a further £100/150k with the soccer schools if it is long term, he said we can absorb the losses but other projects will have to miss out which I am guessing means the pitch

It sounds like the work on the pitch is going ahead regardless.

MP said that if the conclusion of this season and the start of next season is delayed, and hence there is no close season, we will request that our early matches are played away from home so that the work can be completed.

I wonder what other projects will be delayed
