I've no idea what RHMs prospects of another deal at Villa are, but were he to be released, would we be able to afford him? You look at the likes of Ginnelly who went to Walsall after being strongly linked with usfollowing a loan spell.
I think we are going off track here.....

My original point related to the development of youngsters, and it is clear that the focus now is on bringing in youngsters in their late teens / early twenties from elsewhere and developing them, rather than taking in kids at the age of six and bringing them through the academy. The latter is no longer financially sustainable for a club like us.

I get that. My point was that when we’re loaning players still contracted to another club, like RHM it’s different to signing up promising players to develop like CBT or Nelson. The primary benefit with loan players is to their parent club, though Rovers may also reap some reward for their time with us.

I know, but Gilmour was originally here on loan, so I think RHM can be included in broadly the same category.

Nelson probably isn't the best example to support your point since we signed him after a loan spell.

I am pretty sure Blackett Taylor, Hepburn Murphy, Gilmour and even Nelson (who is still young) have played quite a few games this season.

They all fit the definition of young players being given a chance.
Keep the Faith was meaning our young players to be fair though RLC. We gave contracts to Passant, Spellman, Bayley Thomson and Walker Rice none of whom have been given any league play and likely won't any time soon.
Interestingly I just saw that on the website our first team squad has been amended from earlier in the season to include a number of other youngsters such as hayde, Burton, Musuamba. I wonder does anyone know why - is size of first team squad relevant for anything important?

I have already replied to the comment about our own young players coming through and the impact of the EPP rules. The players are not of the same quality as they were ten or twenty years ago and the club's youth development policy has changed. But I thought I had already made that obvious........

while I understand your point about top rules, other clubs are able to bring young players through so surely we should be able too

It depends how much those clubs have decided to invest in their academies relative to us. If they have maintained a strong academy (eg. Crewe) they will produce more players than we do. We have gone down a different route.

Saturday was quite a day for ex-Rovers scoring in League 2. 4 of them bagged; Cassidy on debut for Stevenage, Smith for Oldham, Cook for Mansfield and Amoo for Vale.

Shame about Ben. The player we had pre-injury would have been good enough for FL2 maybe L1. He’ll have to drop down the leagues to rebuild any playing career.

Poor Ben. Never the same after those injuries and his recent loan at Wrexham hasn’t worked out. May end up at Warrington with the other rovers rejects

Always like the drama of deadline day. Jacob Maddox joining Southampton on loan is an interesting one.

Is that the under-23s or the full squad ?

Some younger players have switched from loans at League One / Two clubs to the Premier League pretty rapidly, such as Steven Alzate at Brighton, who played against us at Swindon last year.
