Hard to call. Significant resources will have to go on the pitch, which means less on the squad, but even without the Cup run, we most be getting more in on match day.If we do stay up, I would guess next season will also be a struggle.
The graphs which MP discussed at the TROSC AGM showed a small increase in budget next season, but not a huge one. I think we would still broadly be shopping in the same market for players.Hard to call. I wouldn't mind that. After eight consecutive seasons either challenging for promotion or fighting to stay up, it would be nice to have a quiet season. The struggle might not be quite as desperate as this season, but I think we would still be in the bottom half.
Then we need to bring on one or two from our youth team or improve some of the players we already have like CBT, Sid or Morgan. Other league teams seem to be able to sign and develop non-league players but I can't remember the last time we did this successfully, except when we were also in the NL.The graphs which MP discussed at the TROSC AGM showed a small increase in budget next season, but not a huge one. I don't think that is true at all to be honest. Norwood, Jennings, Monthe, Caprice and others all had no or minimal league experience and we have developed all of them into Football League standard players. There is only so much you can do if you don't have the resources to pluck established players off the shelf, which a number of clubs in this division can do. Our own youth development is massively hindered by the EPP rules. Then we need to bring on one or two from our youth team or improve some of the players we already have like CBT, Sid or Morgan. Fair point - and you could have mentioned Ollie Norburn too. However, most were signed when we were a non-league club and were playing in the same league. It's a bit more challenging to pluck out non-league players and move them into a EFL team.I don't think that is true at all to be honest. I am pretty sure Blackett Taylor, Hepburn Murphy, Gilmour and even Nelson (who is still young) have played quite a few games this season.we appear to have a young keeper in the squad (pilling) who never got a chance with mellon so to think he would suddenly promote from the youth even if good enough is far fetched, as for captice I still cringe when he plays (I know we have injuries) but he is totally out of his depth at this level
Gilmour hardly played before his injury, it's more the lack of players coming through the ranks that is a concern for meI am pretty sure Blackett Taylor, Hepburn Murphy, Gilmour and even Nelson (who is still young) have played quite a few games this season.
They all fit the definition of young players being given a chance.
The academy has effectively closed due to the EPP rules, which means it is highly unlikely we will produce another Koumas.Gilmour hardly played before his injury, it's more the lack of players coming through the ranks that is a concern for me
Yes, but you get my point. He is likely to be released in the summer and we might be able to take him if we are still interested.Hepburn-Murphy is still on Villa's books though. Gilmour seemed to get more chances while on loan than after he signed a permanent deal.
I've no idea what RHMs prospects of another deal at Villa are, but were he to be released, would we be able to afford him? You look at the likes of Ginnelly who went to Walsall after being strongly linked with usfollowing a loan spell.Yes, but you get my point.
