They will actually have played together under Les Parry. I bet they never thought they would be reunited in the Premier League.

I had no idea Martin was at West Ham. It was a strange move for him, as he had spent all of his career prior to this season in League One or the Championship.
He had taken up the inauspicious third keepers spot at a premier league club - no doubt decent wages but little chance of game time. Fabianski's injury and Roberto's disastrous deputisation gave him his chance.

I expected as much from the way they celebrated together at the end.

I thought it was strange when I saw the transfer announced. Although he'd been on the bench a few times, he never made it at Liverpool. He left Millwall and joined West Ham as third-choice keeper. I'm glad it's worked out and his dad (ex-Hammers and England defender Alvin Martin) must be delighted.

I think Martin was signed as a back up. Number 3? Fabianski was injured and his replacement was poor. I know Hammers fans were bemoaning the fact that they let Adrian go. A decent keeper most of the time! Not nice to come on with fifteen minutes to go and no warm up. Probably freezing and then to concede a poor goal immediately!

I see Jake Cassidy is back in league football. The EFL's bottom club, Stevenage, have paid a five-figure sum to sign him from Maidenhead United.

That's a hell of a punt by Stevenage! I don't think he has done much at all beyond that fantastic early loan spell with us. I wish him all the best though and can't see that he'll get many more chances. He was really highly thought of as a teenager and I expected him to kick on at Wolves following his loan with us. Goal scoring looked so easy for us (not in the later loan spell) but he hasn't hit the back of the net many times since - how fortunes change!

As ONIGP says, Cassidy never fulfilled his early promise. Can wonder if it might have been different if Jake had not been stopped from another loan to Rovers by Dean Sanders.

Meanwhile another ex Rover Cole Stockton grabbed Morecambe’s winner in midweek. By contrast, Adam Buxton was released from his contract by their new manager, don’t know if he’s got another club yet.

Another waste. At 27 he should be at his peak and looked technically capable of L1 (at least) but will probably end up as an NL (or lower) journeyman if he carries on.

Yeah, I always liked Adam, great skills and good with the ball at his feet. Needs to trim down though.

Interesting Jose Baxter still without a club (advertising his services on LinkedIn having been released by Plymouth managed by fellow Liverpudlian Ryan Lowe.

He must have been short of offers to agree to a contract with Plymouth being one hell of a journey for a start (he doesn`t drive) and having a young family at home on Merseyside.

Could he offer anything at League One level short term?

Another one on the theme of "wasted talent". He's probably capable of standing out at L1 level but does come with baggage. Would need to be sure he had grown-up and would work hard and fit in with the dressing room. Being released by Plymouth may suggest not all is well. No idea what shape he is in. Pretty sure we were still L1 when he first played for us.

Not an ex player obviously but I see Danny Rowe has signed for Oldham on an 18 month deal....always though he'd have been worth a punt given some of the forwards we're currently wasting a wage on!

I think he would have been a decent signing in League Two, but not at this level.

Wonder what's gone wrong there. Don't think signing for Fleetwood was a good move, but thought he'd get more of a chance at Macc. Though probably a better chance of getting paid on time at Stockport.

Unless he's become absolutely terrible since moving to Fleetwood you'd have thought Clarke would have playing at a higher level than Stockport.

I wouldn’t have gone after Rowe or Jake Cassidy for that matter. Wouldn’t touch José Baxter with a barge pole!

I’m sure Micky thought about rowe who may not have cost much. May have been worth a punt given our precarious position. Hopefully strikers of better calibre are on mickeys radar

Unlike Ponch & Payne
Payne had a reasonable goalscoring record with Shrewsbury in League One, so you could understand why we took a punt on him. I doubt Rowe would be any better than him at this level, to be honest. Both players were prolific in the National League, which does not always mean a great deal.

The Ponticelli signing seems to have been a short-term fix due to lack of funds.

I'm a little surprised Payne is so out of favour, as he wasn't that bad in the early part of the season, while Ferrier should some of his own frailties in an anonymous performance last weekend from the reports on here. It doesn't sound like we'll be getting anyone much else in from Micky's remarks.

The Ponticelli signing baffles me I must admit. Has he played any minutes at all in the league? Surely we'd be better getting him our wage bill unless Coventry are paying him which I'd doubt.

On a separate note, it'll be good to see Nors back on Saturday. I'm sure he'll get a great reception although clearly hope he's not on the scoresheet.
