I went to the Deva this afternoon to watch Steve play for York in the top-of-the-table clash. He was excellent and rarely looked troubled in a fairly comfortable victory for the Minstermen. I sat in the away end and it was great to hear the 'Steeeeve' chant on the many occasions he won the ball (they must have picked that up from us).

George Waring also came on for the last half an hour and looked OK at that level.

I see ex-Rover Adam Mekki got the first of table-topping Bromley’s 5 in their win over Halifax.

Cookie will have loved going back to Walsall today and getting a goal in Mansfield’s 2-1 win.

Ipswich’s mini slump has ended with Norwood returning to the side and getting a couple of goals

Pleased that Dave Challinor is back in management at Hartlepool. Hope he does well. Will be interesting as he’s been at fylde for a long time

I think that is quite a tough job for Challinor. Yes, Hartlepool are a big club at that level, but they have been in a mess off the pitch for years and numerous managers have failed there.

Mike Jones scored a screamer for Carlisle on the TV tonight.

We were discussing young players who slipped the net a few days ago, and there is no question that Ronnie let a few promising youngsters go for reasons unknown. Jones and Will Vaulks spring to mind.

Vaulks was down the list at the time of his leaving and it was no surprise he left, credit to him for having made a good career in the game, Jones I remember him having a few games but did little

Vaulks started his career playing mainly as a defender, looked the stand-out player in the reserves, but for reasons unknown, Ronnie Moore, when he returned, didn't rate him. Gone on to prove RM wrong, although mainly plays midfield these days.

Mike Jones didn't have enough opportunity with Rovers, unsure, but thought he might have started as a full-back with us, but seems to have carved out a decent career in the FL since leaving.

Vaulks was the most highly rated of the youngsters in his age group , but was only offered a sIx month contract by Ronnie and then released, with Jake Kirby - who was not rated by the youth staff - offered a longer deal. Something strange definitely went on there. I remember that RM brought in wingers on loan who played ahead of Jones, so I am not sure he got a fair crack of the whip. I like Ronnie but youth development was definitely a weakness of his.

I have only just caught up with our ex-loanee keeper, Péter Gulácsi, who played against Wales last night. He seems to have established himself as Hungary's number one number one. I remember he played about nine years ago in the Les Parry era. Seems a long time ago.

I noticed that Abs Bell Baggie scored Weymouth's equaliser last night. I'm sure I remember him scoring a cracking brace at Accy where we still contrived to lose during our fall from the EFL.

He was really good when we were top of League One under Ronnie in 12-13, but has fallen a long way since.

More problems at max powers Sunderland. A home defeat to Burton tonight another poor result. Still can’t believe they put 5 past us when they’ve done nothing in all of Parkinson’s other games.

And another defeat for Wrexham. Tollit dropped to the bench after the weekend. The dragons remain in the national league relegation zone

In fairness, I think Sunderland have got good players but they have been underachieving for years. However, it is typical that the only occasion they turned up was against us (probably a brief new manager bounce for Parkinson).

Wrexham are in major trouble. Keates does not seem to have made much impact and there were only 2,900 there tonight. A sorry state of affairs.

I see Ben Pringle got sent off for Gillingham on Saturday for what he said to the referee.
He'd only just come off the bench as well. With open space he looked classy, in tighter games less so. On balance it was probably a good call not to sign him - assuming we had the chance to.

An unexpected win for West Ham thanks to a Cresswell goal and a clean sheet on his Premier League debut for 33-year-old David Martin, a Rovers loanee 10 years ago.

They will actually have played together under Les Parry. I bet they never thought they would be reunited in the Premier League.

I had no idea Martin was at West Ham. It was a strange move for him, as he had spent all of his career prior to this season in League One or the Championship.
