I see that 3 of the youngsters who were given professional contracts are playing tonight against Macclesfield.
Bayleigh Passant the goalkeeper isn't which is surprising... has he gone out on loan?
Also no run outs for any of the boys coming back from injury or on the periphery. Thought Maddox and Woods would have at least been given a run out?
Thoughts?

Youth matches can sometimes be quite sterile, but that was an enjoyable game. I always thought Walker Rice was more of a winger but he played centre midfield tonight and was impressive. There were other encouraging performances with Bailey Thompson in particular leading the line well, in addition to his goals.

Yes, Nugent was good. I also liked the look of Musuamba at the back. Very stylish on the ball.

I hope that once we reach midtable safety one or two of them will get a game in the first-team. It's been too long since a youngster made that breakthrough.

Wouldn't that be great! There is such a gulf, though, between the level that these lads are playing at and L1 that it must be a very difficult judgement call. Although not many home grown youngsters have made the first team in recent years, it does seem that our judgement is pretty sound since we rarely release anybody who progresses to, or beyond, our level. Off the top of my head I can only think of Will Vaulks in recent times. All in all it does suggest that we now struggle to either get the right calibre kids in or to develop them. But you never know, this crop might be our Class of 92!

Thanks AM and RLC for the comments - great you went to watch the boys....
I also thought Walker - Rice was v good last season when I watched them at Nantwich - also Thompson. Nugent is not signed as a professional is he? Should he be?
As BBC said it would be great to have some home grown talent. Do you guys who went last night think any of them would be anywhere near realistically pushing to get some proper game time this season?

I am not sure any of the youngsters are ready for the first team, but Walker-Rice seems the most likely to break through. He seemed a cut above the rest in terms of vision and awareness, and seemed to have a lot of respect from the other players.

It makes a pleasant change that we're winning some of these after losing to lower league Cheshire sides in the recent past.

I guess some of them will play against Salford ? Interesting your take on Walker- Rice - he was probably the pick of the bunch at Nantwich last season also. Thanks!
