Ex Bury, apparently signing today.

Rumour of this has been doing the rounds recently. Aside from his age, what type of midfielder is Neil? Good recruit in terms of experience but don’t know enough about him. Sounds like Maddox knee problem will keep him out a while, but Gilmour still doesn’t seem to be getting a look-in.

I did comment a few weeks ago that he might be of interest to Micky. I imagine he is seen as the new McCulloch, protecting our rather vulnerable defence. He would allow Perkins and Potter to play further up. My guess is that Danns and the club have been negotiating terms for a while and at last he is cheap enough.
Incidentally, he is a current international and has scored 9 goals in 12 appearances for Guyana. We may lose him for some games.

Seems a slightly strange one - yes he is local, a free agent and has good pedigree but midfield is not exactly short of options assuming that Maddox comes back at some point ( I wonder TBH if he will). I guess as BBC has said above Danns has dropped his wage demands to enable us to justify the cost. Does anyone know is he anywhere close to match fit - as in been training elsewhere? I guess if not, he will be weeks away from any game time.
Surely this must now mean that Gilmour will be loaned out and McCullough won't be coming back once fit.

Yes, well done to BBTC for calling this a while ago. As he says, I am sure he has been brought in as a genuine ballwinner / defensive midfielder, something we lack at the moment. He is not twenty five, but he is a good player with a lot of experience. Ultimately we can only sign players we can afford, and that excludes Championship standard midfielders (which Danns was) in their prime.

If Danns is a defensive midfielder then good. I’m unsure it precludes is signing McCullough. If all goes well, Luke unlikely to be match fit until the end of this year, so could sign a deal with an automatic extension if he proves fitness. Though possible he could sign for someone else if terms are better.

Although I described him as a 'defensive midfielder', I am not sure he is in the same bracket as McCullough. I have not seen much of him, but he has always struck me as an energetic, box-to-box player who scores a few goals, rather than a water-carrier. Physical, but not necessarily a holding midfielder.

Time will tell I suppose.

Danns has signed and MM reckons he will be up to speed fitness wide ASAP. They could not wait for McCullough. They need a defensive midfielder now. A highly experienced player who can do a job. Has played in the PL. BTW, do we now have the oldest midfield in the EFL with Danns, Perkins and Potter? (LOL!).

Age isn't that much if a problem and I think he still has a lot in the tank. Experience is vital.

Yes, but I doubt we'll ever see the three of them playing together for 90 minutes. In any case, we have enough youngsters with double-barrelled names to do most of the legwork. ;)

If they do, our central midfield will have a combined age of 108. :D

A club record surely !

Mc Cullough was according to Matt Jones months ago only being helped with his recovery.... and that he was not going to be resigned... surely this confirms it and I assume also as I said earlier Gilmour will be loaned out as he seems to have dropped way down the pecking order

If McCollough were fit, available and we had the funds, why would we not sign him though? He’s proven that he can do a decent job for us, despite not being the best passer of a ball, so, if Danns is more of a box to box midfielder, then there is still a need for a defensive midfielder to break up play and protect the back four.

I don’t understand why we’ve seen so little of Gilmour this season. It sounds like Danns will be playing in a similar role, so if Micky’s not going to play Harvey might as well loan him out.

Comes with a similar reputation as Perkins. Hard working, consistent and has plenty of experience. Also fans havent got a bad word to say about him which is always a good sign. Another good signing I think.

A bit like Boz, I can see Gilmour slipping out the back door before we get to see his full potential which would be a shame.
But there's only so many shirts to go around and even CJ will likely be splinter picking again tomorrow.
Internationals or not, Danns unlikely to be proper match fit just yet.
