Absolutely right. The authorities will probably turn a blind eye though...
I'm not sure that they can turn a blind eye on last seasons' cancellation since it is "in the system" and would create a precedent. They could get away with the most recent one I suppose, but would again create a precedent that I don't think the EFL would want to live with. If they get away with either or both the EFL will be creating a nightmare for themselves.

When you look at the calibre of players are being linked with now, they could stay up despite the points deduction(s), which would be very frustrating.

Who are they being linked with?

You are right RLC. I see they have signed Jack Hobbs. He was a quite well regarded Liverpool reserve a few years ago.

Jack Hobbs was with Bolton last season. When his contract ran out, he agreed a new deal but this was kept on hold until the Trotters came out of administration. So it's just a contract extension, not a new signing.

Fair enough BBTC although the BBC probably for technical reasons described him as unattached and hence my misinterpretation.

Jack Hobbs signed today and Gary O'Neill, Will Buckley and Craig Conway are set to follow. All arguably better players than we have got.

None of those players will be match fit just yet, they haven't even got a manger yet although they want Nigel Pearson I cant see it happening. Take into account 6 more points to be deducted they are still certainties to go down

It remains to be seen whether they will face further points deductions and if they do it might only be two points for the Doncaster game. They will be able to strengthen again in January and a gap of 12-15 points is not insurmountable, as several clubs have shown in the past. I don't think it is certain that they will go down.

That is the case with all the players I have mentioned. They have been training with the club throughout August, so won't be that far behind in terms of fitness.

RLC is right. Don't underestimate Bolton. If the new owners invest heavily in players - as I am sure they will - both now and in January, I am sure they will stay up. Even 18 points is only six wins and we managed that last season in just one month!

They may have been training for a while but in no way are they match fit, there is a precedent in failing to fulfil fixtures with Middlesbrough being deducted 3 points a number of years ago, they will be deducted 6 points and I am sure will be relegated this season

Back in the eighties we were only deducted two points by the league (not the EPL who made the Boro decision) for failing to fulfil a fixture, so there is a different precedent. Leeds, Southampton and others have all overcome points deductions in recent years to finish in the top half of this division - Leeds actually made the play offs. It will only take their players a couple of weeks to get match fit. I think the outcome all depends on the quality of the players they are able to recruit, as they are still largely playing kids at the moment, and how effective Keith Hill proves as an appointment. He is a risk as he has only been successful at a much smaller club in Rochdale and failed at Barnsley.

Ignoring their goal difference they are 15 points from safety ... BUT sadly they will have money to spend and as BBC says above they have already brought in some quality players and will bring in more before 5pm on Monday. Then they will see how the land lies come January and if they are by then less than (say) 8 -10 points from safety they will spend big with loans etc. and really make a push for it...
I am sure MM will not be counting on Bolton definitely getting relegated especially if they get don't get heavily penalised for failing to fulfil fixtures.... for the game this season they will argue they did not have enough fit players to fulfil the fixture as all the young lads were not fit and so try and get away on the same basis as if most of a squad is down with flu....

The game this season they called off without consultation with the football league so there is no way they will get away with it.

My feeling is that it is likely they will go down but, as ADD says, we should not take it as guaranteed and assume there will only be two relegation places to avoid. That would be very dangerous.

Liam Bridcutt and Daryl Murphy sign for Bolton - Championship standard players.

Farcical that they can bring in players of that standard after what has happened.

Daryl Murphy is no longer championship level & is nocking on, Bridcutt appears the standout signing but several others are mediocre at best several from league 2 clubs

My point was that these signings have apparently been funded by yet more debt, which should not be permitted after what has happened.

I doubt we could afford either Murphy or Bridcutt.

For what it is worth, I still don't believe it is certain they will go down.
