Ian Goodison... who else!
Watched it on the telly. With the sending off we could/should have got a couple more but I'd have taken 1-0 at the start of the night. Still a lot of football left to play in the tie but we're in the driving seat.

I thought Nors was lucky to stay on the pitch tbh. One of his challenges was so high it could easily have been a straight red, his late 'barge' could also have been a yellow/red. Don't know what he was playing at.

Good to see FGR not getting away with their antics for once and even the goal line technology went in our favour.

A few comments about Jennings being out of sorts, I did see a tweet which suggested his Grandad had just passed away. Good on the lad for playing if that's true.

Despite the low level of frustration I share that we were unable to extend our lead, we broke a poor run against FGR which is massive. Looking at this positively, we are the only team out of 4 taking a lead into the 2nd leg.

The NL Final was played by two teams with no history and owned by wealthy men. The size of the crowd, around 8k, says it all. They remind me of FGR! And to think that they will be replacing Notts Co, the oldest league club. Obviously, history is not everything but it is only confirmation that massive private wealth is a huge issue In modern society.

By a country mile. Not that others did not try hard or play well, but he was outstanding, one level above. With the season nearly over he obviously wants to make a good impression but I think there must be unfinished business about the way he left FGR.

Monthe has been performing like that for months now. It wasn't a one off performance from him.

True, but he was a class above the others on Friday and is probably feared by FGR as much as Norwood. A big mistake to let either of them leave.

I wonder if he will move on in the summer. I think he will get a lot of offers and will certainly go if we don't go up.

It's interesting that no-one has had their contract extended during the season. We know the club tried with Nors and I'm sure Manny was offered an extended deal and possibly some of the loanee like McCullough. However, I think none of the other out-of-contract players are certain to get new deals.

Sorry, Ian. I've digressed again. :(

Could Danny Rowe be a decent replacement for Nors if and when he does move on? He's a different kind of player I know that, but do we think he could do a job for us?

We have definitely been talking to Monthe about a new contract, but apparently he wants to move back down south so we might not be able to keep hold of him.

That would be a real real shame - having said that based on recent performances he is better than L2 level so we need to go up to stand any chance in my view.

I said I would be happy with a 1-0 victory before the game, but I am slightly deflated after that. The first half performance was excellent, energetic and intense, and we had the chances to score two or three, and if Norwood was fully fit we would have.

However, I thought we got it wrong tactically in the second half and huffed and puffed a bit. I thought we should have switched to a 442 and played with greater width, whereas both wide men were cutting inside into bodies and the width came from the full backs. I thought Norwood would have benefitted from some assistance up front, and it is a major worry that he is clearly injured: he could hardly move in the closing stages and had to go over to the physio on a couple of occasions. To give the players credit, we totally dominated possession after the red card, and I have rarely seen ten men pose as little threat as FGR did tonight. However, the final ball was disappointing at times.
I deliberately took a couple of days before looking at this thread as I didn't want my initial feelings to come out the way they might but I agree entirely with RLC here. I appreciate it is difficult when the bus is parked (Chelsea v Liverpool a few years ago comes to mind) but I agree we were naive tactically in the second half. Shame Mullin wasn't available due his first child but even so I thought Dagnall should have been brought on 10 minutes into the second half and I would not have bothered with Smith. I remain hopeful but I am very nervous the lack of a second goal may just be our undoing...
