If criticism of us today for the postponment because of our pitch (rather than the weather) was in isolation then I wouldn't be concerned.
I know there's a few clubs with cow pat fields of a ground but away managers regularly say that their team has to adjust to a "difficult" pitch when they come to us.
Last few games I've paid attention to the pitch as such. I accept that it's doing us no harm given our record but it is poor. Even passes along the back four look like they're going over speed bumps.
Even Lairds played and I say that with no disrespect.
Side note- just watching Canaries get promotion. Celebrations but not a fan on pitch. Kudos

I agree CK, it is a concern. Micky himself has commented on it a lot in recent weeks.

We have always struggled with drainage due to the siting of the ground in a natural valley, but the pitch is in worse condition than it was twelve months ago. We fired the head groundsman some months ago but don't seem to have replaced him, and Liverpool's various teams have played a number of games at PP this season, arguably too many.

With your back to the kop, left back area has always been prone to flooding.
Dunno..budgets and all that.

Various issues relating to the pitch, which I agree seems to have looked poor recently. The geographical location as RLC highlights, perhaps means long-term (expensive) remedial work is required. Don't know the full picture re the groundsman, think we had apprentices looking after it for a period, but are now appointing a full timer again. Think it's only Liverpool Ladies who use it now.

I can't remember any problems with the pitch in the past. I would argue that when we had a reserve team playing in the Cheshire League, we probably had more games at PP than now. So it seems like a lack of good maintenance is to blame for the general state of the pitch.

what gets me is when mark and nicola took over the year or so later they spent a lot of money on the pitch . then the head grounds man gets fired , and yes a new head grounds man has just been hired . and from the places i have worked a real good one will set you back at least £40.000 a year . and i know what im saying . the head green keeper at whilmslow golf club is on 50k a year

You can't compare the standard of pitches now with those in the sixties. Due to the use of PP by Liverpool, a lot more games are played on our pitch than those of our competitors.

Agree regarding standard of pitches. However, Liverpool U23s don't play at PP any more, though their Ladies team do and we don't have a reserves team using the pitch regularly, so unsure the difficulties are down to the amount of usage,

The ladies team still play there regularly I think, and their youth team used it for a big chunk of the season. I don't think the reserves have used Prenton Park for years; even when we were in a reserves league, they were playing at Lairds or Vauxhall Motors.

I still believe the number of games played on the pitch is part of the problem.

it Is probably a bit of both. Heavy usage and poor maintenance perhaps resulting from our difficult financial position. We needed ground fees from teams using it but we did’nt have the wherewithal to keep the ground in proper shape. Hopefully as our finances improve the ground will get the attention it obviously needs before next season.

A full Cheshire League season would have been at least 20 home games. I don't think Liverpool Ladies play anything like that many.

The combined number of games of the under 21 team and the womens' team would actually be close to twenty this season. But as I have said, you can't compare the state of pitches in the mid sixties with the standards that are expected today.

If the use of a first team pitch for reserve games was not detrimental to the first team, Liverpool would play all their games at Anfield would not they ?

Your comment about expected pitch standards is right RLC. Some of the mud heaps back then would simply be unacceptable today. If you compare Premier League billiard tables, where Managers whinge that pitches are too dry, with back then. I remember George Best scoring a brilliant individual goal when he just skated through the mud against someone.

Wasn't this the only game to be called off in the top 5 divisions on Saturday? That's says enough to me.

True, but then how many other teams were playing in such close proximity to the Irish Sea as Storm Hannah came in? As others have said though, it is clear our drainage isn't as fast acting as other teams for a wide variety of reasons. I suspect a big chunk of change will have to be dropped in the near future on some new rainwater pipes and gullys.

Regardless of the reasons for Saturday's postponement, the general state of the pitch is not good enough. It has been commented on by Micky and several opposition managers.

I've got to say the Crawley pitch looks like it's the first game of the season. It looks pristine.
