What would you have done differently tactically ? Hoofed long balls ? Well that's all we did do for the first 60 minutes when we actually had any possession, and lets face it we've certainly had plenty of practice over the last couple of months. Who said it was necessary to hack anyone down? I didn't. Why did we wait until we were 4 goals down before changing our shape and endeavouring to play some attacking football? The sitting back tactic employed for the first hour invited them on to us continuously,( I think the stats show they had 77% possession in the 1st half) resulting in our static defence being dragged continually all over the place before being carved open with ease time and time again as the inevitable fatigue set in. Let's be honest we were lucky it was only 7 in the end.
We could play them another 10 times and would not win a single game with different tactics...….most probably right Ian, we were never going to win this game anyway but we could have at least come away with our heads up for at least having had a go from the start.
We did not just hack long balls. Have you actually watched the game back ? The chances for Jennings and Norwood in the first half resulted from decent build up play, but the chances to get good possession in the opposition half were very limited because we were playing world class opposition who dominated the ball. In League Two when the ball is lost, it is presented back to you thirty seconds later because of the lower quality of player. Against Spurs we did not see the ball for three or four minutes when we lost it, which makes it very difficult to get up the pitch and build momentum.

We did not actually change our shape at any stage in the game: we played 532 throughout, so you have had another tactical nightmare there. Nor did we employ a 'sitting back' tactic in the first sixty minutes. We were forced back by their domination of the ball. When the game became more stretched in the second half they ripped us to shreds with their quality, so presumably you would have liked that to happen in the first half as well ? We were not cut open because we were too deep, so your comments are completely contradictory.

A League Two side can't compete with world class players. The gulf is too big. The players did give it a go and I was proud of their efforts. You still have not made any suggestion of what we could have done differently tactically, which suggests to me that you are just talking over-emotional nonsense here.

It was my nonsensical view that these forums were a place where differing views could be expressed freely without fear or favour. I was obviously wrong. I have noticed over the years the manner in which you address those whose views differ from yours and it seems to me that as far as you are concerned it is your view or no view.
I love my club with a passion and have done so for many years, from the Third Division North to the Championship (Div. 1) to the National League and now back to the Football League, across the length and breadth of this country and Europe as well and I will continue to do so. I will also, hopefully, continue to express my views here, however over-emotional and nonsensical they may appear to you. I will not allow your aggressive and condescending attitude deter me from expressing my genuinely held views on things Tranmere. These may differ from yours for whatever reason but so be it, that's what these forums should be all about, sharing opinions of all shades without fear of castigation. But one thing is certain I will not stoop to your level of condescension.

I think your response is completely over the top, but really it is for the moderators to censure me, or ban me, if they agree with your sentiments.

I thought your comments were completely unreasonable and gave no credit to a hard working, successful manager, and a group of hard working, but limited League Two players, who were faced with a virtually impossible task on Friday.

I will continue to defend the people who have set this club in the right direction against comments that are provocative, disrespectful and unreasonable.

Forums like these will always be full of different opinions and it’s great to read them all. Just try not to make them personal.

If you have an issue with another member on here use the private messaging facility to try and sort out your differences. Alternatively PM me and I will look into it otherwise it takes away the quality of the thread and becomes way off-topic.

Well I'm not the least surprised by your response. I'm not looking for you to be banned and I'm not looking for anyone to agree with my sentiments. My original comments were critical of the way the team was set up for that particular game. I did not criticise the manager, per se, nor the players for having to play to that game plan, they most definitely worked hard as evidenced by the sheer fatigue which showed as the second-half played out, but surely to God I'm allowed to have an opinion about the tactical approach to any game without being accused of over-emotional nonsense. Nowhere in any of my comments have I attacked "the people who have set this club in the right direction", or been provocative, disrespectful or unreasonable. On the contrary, I believe the club is, at last, heading in the right direction but nothing is perfect and it cannot be wrong to express an opinion without having to accept the provocative and disrespectful response you made to me. End of subject.

Your own posts are often vitriolic and negative, so I don't think you can claim to be innocent in this debate. I think my response above was measured and honest.

All the posters on this site have positive and negative attributes, and it is for the readers to judge their merits. They should not be subjected to a kangaroo court.

I think you should refer to Ian's post above and follow his advice.
