Great news for Adam McGurk who has been called into the Northern Ireland squad for their friendly with Malta on February 6th.

Just reward for Adam's consistently excellent performances in recent weeks, which have included a number of assists and several crucial goals. Adam has been appreciated by the regular away fans all season, so hopefully gaining international recognition will convince a few more of the Prenton Park doubters of his contribution.

i will admit was wasnt best pleased with some of his performances.

But I am glad he has turned things around, and would be the first to give him a standing ovation when he does it as PP.

That will do wonders for his confidence. Lets hope he keeps improving at PP

Totally agree. As long as he doesn't get injured. He may not play, as he and Robie Weir were called up last year but didn't get a sniff in the end.

We haven't had a player capped for years - Goodi?

Yes, he did - but in the end he didn't, although I think he deserved a chance. However, selfishly I hope he doesn't get called up again until he's signed a new contract. ;-)

I think McGurk and Weir were only on standby last season (I may be wrong) so Adam's call up is definitely recognition for his improvement this year.

Goody does have over 100 caps, but it is certainly many years since we have had a player capped by one of the home nations (Gareth Roberts or Alan Mahon perhaps the last ?).

Robbie Weir wasn't that bad.

Pleased for Adam, at his best one of the more skilful players in the side. I hope he does go on and earn a cap.

He was hardly that good either.

His form mirrored Rovers under Les last season, petering out after a bright start. However, there have been far worse players who've pulled on a Rovers shirt in the last few years. Probably L2 is the right level for him.

Adnam Ahmed is the other Rover to have earned caps while at PP in recent times.

Another wasteful signing. Think I only saw him play twice.

Yes, during his two years at PP, he played more times for Pakistan than for Rovers. (Good quiz question, eh? ;-))

BTW, he's currently with Nelson in the NW Counties League.

It would be great if he started. Good luck to him. It would actually rekindle my interest in the international scene which has been missing since Aldo's Rep Ireland days.
