Tranmere midfielder Charlie Barnett is pushing Rovers boss Ronnie Moore to extend his contract with his impressive recent performances.
Barnett signed for the club last summer on a one-year contract having been released by Premier League club Liverpool and after impressing in a pre-season trial at Prenton Park.
His pre-season displays earned rave reviews from the coaching staff at the club, and after a slow start to his Tranmere career, he is gradually beginning to adjust to life in League One and first team football, and has produced some excellent showings in recent weeks.
Having been brought back into the side over a month ago, Barnett was asked to play an unfamiliar role down the left hand side but dealed admirably and kept the side's width well as well as using his pace and skill and passing ability to good effect for his team. Manager Ronnie Moore admitted to local radio: "Charlie Barnett has done exceptionally well and he is playing his way towards a new deal. I was shouting from the rooftops about what a quality player we've got. But he's come along slowly."
The 20 year-old Scouser reverted back to his more familiar role in the middle of the park on Tuesday night against Peterborough, and capped his performance with a goal, his first in senior football. Moore added: "The other night we put him in what is his true position in the centre of midfield and the goal he got was worthy of winning any game."
