Your career is pretty much over when you add this to your profile:

Dagnall went on to play for Indian side Kerala Blasters and Scottish side Hibernian

It's all a little bit mix and match, isn't it? I'm sure MM has brought in the best he can but not sure where it leaves us in term of a settled formation. We have the wingers but no target man for them
to hit (without decrying Nors' undoubted aerial ability) and 3 busy, hard-working type strikers who may be more suited to the through-ball than the cross. It's going to be interesting to see how
MM puts his jigsaw puzzle together.

Delighted with the loan signing of Sid Nelson and massive credit to Ishmael Miller who has supposedly agreed to forego his wages while out injured. If true this is pretty amazing!

Has scored. 130 goals in over 400 league games. A vastly experienced striker. Worth a punt for six months. As has been said here before, the player market is more limited than in June. Maybe that Cook type striker was nor available. I doubt Dagnll would have been signed if Miller had not been injured.

Yes, that’s an amazing gesture by Miller to forego his wages whilst injured so as to free up budget. Not many would do that regardless of whether they can afford it.

There is nothing wrong with Hibs ! ;)

Mellon has said that Miller was the only 'physical' striker that we could reasonably recruit, which explains why we could not replace him at short notice. I think Dagnell has been brought in to bump up the numbers. We have only got two specialist strikers at the moment, which leaves us quite vulnerable.

I must admit, I don't really understand some of the negative comments about Dagnell. The Bury fans don't say he was poor for them, just that he was not on the same level as Maynard and co., and he has had a good career, particularly his time at Rochdale. I think Little was daft to release him first time around.

Although a bit underwhelming, that's a fair point. I think in my mind I was expecting a Miller type player, big and strong to play that centre forward role. I think my memory of him wasn't great although I think he spent a lot of time on the bench coming on late in games so difficult to really get any momentum.

I agree RLC. Miller will be back next season so this is boosting the numbers until the end of the season. At least he is not a young unproven player. We have had a few of them and I think that more have disappointed rather than have excited us.

I’m not sure Dagnall offers a great deal different to our other two fit strikers. His workrate is likely to be less, mainly operating in and around the box and he doesn’t have great pace or aerial presence. Koumas and particularly Hume tarnished their reputations when returning to Rovers late in their careers, although Chris wasn’t at the club long enough to establish a reputation on a par with that pair.

AM refers to it in the Port Vale match thread, but where does this leave Mullin? Despite a reasonable strike rate for minutes on the pitch, Micky uses him very sparingly. Last weekend when the game had gone would have been a chance to get some match time, but he wasn’t called upon. Will he even get a place on the bench now Dagnall has arrived? As one of the handful of players contracted for next season, it surprises me how little he’s been used.

Probably not the type of striker we would prescribe, but still a third striker to chose from - would rather choose from 3 than 2 when taking into account form and fitness...also extra cover for any other absences. Defo worth a punt.

Appreciation for Millers talents has risen since his injury.

Good transfer window on the whole and would have been excellent if Miller hadn't got the injury (great gesture by the man by the way). Squad looking good and as per Boz I thought Mullin would get more minutes.

Is Mullin more of an impact player as he seems to drift if played from the start but has greater impact coming from the bench?

I would go along with that - Mullin certainly seemed to do well when coming on as the game opened up but has not been anywhere near as successful when starting IMO. Dagnall is to my mind a little underwhelming yes given he wasn't first choice at Bury and is short so we still do not have a target man but not altogether surprising given MM had done the hard part in bringing in Miller and has been scuppered by his injury.

People who may have been following my earlier posts in this thread may be surprised, but on balance I am pleased with our business in this window. We have lost the dead wood and strengthened nearly every area. The fact so many players arrived late probably means we didn't always get our first choice, but in the end we now have a bigger and better bunch of players. The new arrivals will lift the squad and make for more competition. I'm still not convinced we have what it takes to make the playoffs but we are in much better shape than a month ago. Better still, if we can hang onto some of the younger loanees, we will have something to build on next season.

I remember Chris scoring a consolation goal at Luton when I think John McMahon was in temporary charge. I hope Daggers gets a fairer crack of the whip from management and fans than he did last time. To let such a promising player go when still a teenager always rankled with me. He might have become a legend if he had stayed under a different manager. No wonder he wants to make amends this time round. I just hope he hasn't left it too late.

I agree about Dagnall BBTC. I got to a few more games in his early days when visiting my now deceased father who was a big Rovers fan. I thought he had the potential to have a really top career. He has done well but not as well as he might have done.

Window over......Nors stays... (for now).
Forget all the other ins and outs.
That's the one we wanted.

In fairness to Dagnall, he had a better career than a lot of the strikers we had after his departure. I still think we should have been more patient with him.

I am not sure that is entirely fair. How many games has he actually started ? Not too many. At Morecambe he played the full ninety minutes and was outstanding, and he was good against Exeter and Crawley as well.

I think the real issue is that he is not a natural partner for Norwood, so Mellon has always preferred to play Nors plus A.N.Other.

Interesting goings on at Wrexham where Tollit and Stockton are.

Manager Graham barrow left and they’ve appointed ex player Bryan Hughes. That’s fine but given him a 3 and a half year deal - madness for a rookie
