We dominated the second half in terms of possession but did not create enough, whatever it sounded like to you. Regarding formations, even the diamond with Jennings at the tip would be more effective than what we are doing now. Cook can't play as a lone striker. There also seems to be a lack of confidence, which is worrying, albeit no lack of effort. The barracking which dunn was subjected to tonight won't help matters though. He was up and down again, but hardly the only player underperforming. It didn't sound like complete domination from the radio commentary, though it sounded like Rovers were well on top in the last 20 minutes. Buxton, Wirral Radio's MoM, McNulty and Ridehalgh seemed to have decent games, but apart from them..?
McEveley sounded like a liability. Dunn, while more involved was too selfish. The midfield trio were too similar, might we actually be missing a box-to-box type player closer to Maynard in style. Cook was too isolated, but failed to polish off the scraps he was given.
It doesn't look like Micky tried much experimentation in the behind closed doors games said to be so much better than open friendlies, given the way Rovers lined up almost identically in personnel and formation to the Sutton game and with another below par performance.
It is one thing to contradict people when you have seen the game, but when you have not it is irritating. We had a lot of pressure around the box but could not prise their defence open. As spark says, we need to stop the brabinesque nonsense and play players in their correct positions. Did not realise neither aldershot or daggers won, which is something. It's not just what it sounded to me, it was how the radio commentary was describing it. Having the bulk of possession and dominating a game are very different things. It is worrying that possession wasn't converted into goals.
