Nothing is 'inevitable', certainly not in September. As a minimum Moore should be given the same length of time to turn things round as his predecessor: we have been bottom in October under Parry and still survived. How does the fact that Moore is more experienced than Parry make his performance 'worse' than Parry's, as you state in an earlier post ? All managers of the club should be judged by the same standards.

So we put up with RM until the start of March, just so he has further time to blame the players, stick with the same formation that hasnt worked all season? Of course RM should be judged more harshly than a rookie manager, he is experienced, etc. I dont want him out, but I am more concerned about this club getting relegated just because he is a club legend. Yes, maybe September is a bit early, but at this rate, where are our wins coming from? Taking the table as it is now, the next team anwhere near us will be brizzle city in mid november, thats 7 games away, can you HONESTLY see us getting anything from the likes of Swindle/Bradford/PNE/Rotherham away? because I certainly cant as things stand, so the only way it can change is through the manager, as he wont change things.

Why not, for the sake of a handful of points, play 4/5/1 or some variation of, just to get some points on the board, and boost the defensive confidence? Everyone says how our strikers arent being supplied so it isnt gonna affect them any worse

Whoever the manager is - and let's accept that it's going to be Ronnie for a little while longer at least - could at least deploy some tactics which would get something better out of our small and brittle squad. Why-oh-why-oh-why-oh-why does Ronnie persist with playing two wide men which makes us really vulnerable through the centre of midfield? Time-and-again especially before the sending off, Vale just came through our two man midfield like a pack of dogs and created enough chances to win the game. Ironically, the sending off forced us to play narrower and we did better. Playing wingers is fine if you are flying and full of confidence. We need to start being more difficult to beat, especially away from home. Ronnie has long had a fascination with wide players and invests a lot of faith in them. Sadly, in my view, this tactic has had its day (in about 1985).

The tactic hasn't had its day, wingers are still useful and effective. Unfortunately we don't have decent wingers or decent defensive midfielders. It's a recipe for disaster which Ronnie created with his bizzare summer business.

In fairness, Saturday was the first time we have played 4-4-2 in a while. That formation can still work well when you have a holding midfielder, which as has been discussed on here ad nauseum, we have not.

In the majority of previous games we have played variations of 4-5-1 / 4-3-3, so RM has not actually been as tactically rigid this season as you suggest. We have still conceded a number of goals even with these formations due to the lack of balance in the side, failure to operate as a team etc, so the problem is not solely about formations. I agree with your point about playing a 4-5-1 to try and grind a result out; I said exactly this after we lost at Notts County last week. Turning our form round at the moment is like trying to turn an oil tanker and I think we have to grin a couple of 0-0s before things can genuinely get better.

The fact that Moore has a longer track record than Parry should logically make us more inclined to keep him on, as he has the experience to turn things round which Les did not. So I still don't understand your reasoning.

No, I can't see where the next win is coming from either, but football is a strange game. When Orient were 24th this time last season I did not think they would finish above us, Walsall were 18th but also finished higher than us.......

The manager merry-go-round has always annoyed me in football. You lose a few games, ppl are calling for your head. I'd agree with RLC that stability is needed. I'm not saying Ronnie hasn't been on a bad run, he been on a terrible run for months but I still don't think changing the manager will help. Whoever is in charge will be faced with the same problems.

I think if Ronnie wants to remain manager, he needs to shake things up. Continuing as we are will send us down and he's for the chop if that happens. Players need to step up and take responsibility too. There's been some really poor performances from our established players.

I see Dugdale has been called back to Crewe. That is not going to help teamwork. I still cannot understand why Ronnie has not replaced Foster, Surely there is a decent central defender out there looking for a new club? I know you will not get the pick of the crop at this time of year but with the summer transfer shambles in general you wonder about the scouting network (if there is one beyond Ronnie and McMahon!)? Surely it is not just about the money we can offer? There also seems to be a theme amongst the clubs we get loanees from. Huddersfield and Barnsley seem to be quite prominent at present. Why is this? An unfair person (which I try not to be!} might wonder how much effort goes into the player acquisition process.

We were always at risk of Dugdale being recalled if he proved his fitness here. I'd agree that a permanent replacement for Foster would be preferable, although if we were able to get a promising youngster on long-term loan, that might do the trick. In terms of loanees, it makes more sense to recruit fairly close to home (though the b******s over the water help us as little as possible) and Ronnie still lives in Yorkshire, so maybe finds it easy to take in games there.

I didn't pay that much attention to how we lined up on Saturday if we were 442 was it Akpa Akpro or Lowe as second striker alongside Stockton? It actually felt more like a 433.

we were 4-4-2 with Stockton & Lowe up front and Akpa Akpro wide left.

The difficulty with recruiting these youngsters on loan is that they are generally unknown. Even if you send scouts to watch them, they aren't competing in competitive games. It's really just a gamble and one you hope pays off. It worked wonders last season with Foster and Cassidy. Sadly, it hasn't worked this season.

Sorry Ian.....you can't really mean Foster. a disaster on loan or "under contract" but I agree Cassidy, Palmer and Gibson were astute loan signings.

I see we have won our appeal against Ridehalgh's red card and he is available for Saturday: a rare bit of good fortune for us this season. Just a pity we can't get the three points back.

I said all along that ref was s**t......

I was really pleased to see last week that we had given contracts until the end of the season to defenders Callum Morris and Antonie Boland but just noticed that both were in the Reserves side thrashed by Wrexham Res. 6-0. Hoping this is just a blip in their performance and not another poor decision.

Well, a bit of good news at last. He looked OK too until the sending off.

Agreed Ian, let's hope this gives the boys the lift needed going into the Swindle game.

No official confirmation on Ronnie so it looks like just a malicious rumour. Personally I hope so. Sacking Ronnie now would be expensive. Give him another six to eight weeks. Wallace and Robbo should then be back. Any replacement would have a month or so to assess the squad before the transfer window.

It was not just results that did for Barnes, it was the manner of the defeats and his lack of experience. We have been bad at times this season, but nowhere near the levels of ineptitude we showed under the Chuckle Brothers.
