Don't think we need to panic at all. Ronnie will bring players in. We just have to hope he brings in the right ones. I think he said we was looking at a dozen targets a few weeks back. Realistically, he can get maybe 3/4 of these. Keep the faith!

What's the point in signing a young right back when we've already got one? Does Ronnie not have faith in yet another Tranmere youngster?! What Ronnie says on skysports news I wouldn't neccesarly completely believe - there obviously in negotiations and he wants them to stay, so he's not going to put them at risk by saying anything different.

I agree with what evo trfc says about the risk of relegation but were only about 3 weeks into the close season so there's no reason to panic yet. Although if the core of our team goes (McLaren and Jennings), next season could be very difficult - especially if a striker isn't brought in to get 20+ goals.

When I first heard that we had decided to keep hold of Ronnie Moore I was in two minds. As a season ticket holder for a fairly long time, I understand the need to keep continuity and work with the squad we've got however, after reading some posts on this forum, I can certainly agree that mistakes were made last season!

I'm not going to go in to all of them because quite frankly after reading them all I'm bored! :)

Moving on....

The immanent departure of Calvin Zola is likely in the next few days and the likelihood of Davies re-signing is remote.

Is this really such bad news?

I actually quite like Calvin and time after time have said, he's only young, he's still learning. I'd ask myself one question. "How long does he need?". At this level decisions have to be made for the club and a striker who has scored 16 times in 96 (Wikipedia) is not good enough! I would of course wish him well and think he has contributed over the last few years however, frankly his tenure at Tranmere has been nothing short of frustrating!

Steve Davies is another kettle of fish! I'm thinking Alan Mahon/Sean Thornton rolled in to one. I was really impressed with Steve before his injury and thought his involvement could have been the difference to run up to the playoffs. Obviously that wasn’t meant to be. He has been with Tranmere since he was a kid and now seems intent on leaving us for a nominal tribunal fee (if the clubs can't reach an agreement of course) Is this the behaviour of a footballer we want at our club? If Steve wanted to do good by Tranmere, he would have signed a 12 month contract and then asked for a transfer in the summer. I understand it's his career but It would have been nice seeing a young professional do the right thing!

I'm pleased to see that we've made our first signing today and hope that can be a platform for several more. I think Adnan Ahmed may get more of a role next season, he has done pretty well whilst playing for the reserves and his country!

I think it is imperative that we have attacking midfielders who are able to score goals next season. Them and a striker who can contribute 15+ per season would be a welcome addition to the squad. It would also be nice seeing a mixture of youth and experience in the team next season.

Lets bring back some of the attacking football I long to see every season at Prenton Park. :-({|=

I really hope he doesn't get more of a role. Diabolical player. Can't pass, can't shoot, can't tackle and zero physical presence. Waste of money in the extreme. I'd forgive him all of that if I believed for one moment that he had talent or could improve. He doesn't and he won't.

If Akmed gets a shout in the first team after completely failing to impress at reserve level, particularly with Paul Henry showing real glimmers of talent then Ronnie would need his head examined.

As I said, he may get "more of a role" albeit that may come as a sub, I don't doubt he'd be better than John Mullin, who played the same role last season.

I'm not particularly sticking up for Ahmed but he scored 4 reserve league goals in 22 games. Thats approx 17% of the total goals scored by everybody playing in the reserves last season. Whilst I’m not saying that’s world beater form it does beat Paul Henry's goal scoring record of 1 goal in 7 games whilst on loan in the Welsh Premier League and no goals at all in the reserves. At 24 I believe Ahmed could be something different to have in the midfield. At the end of the day, he was part of the Manchester United Academy. You don't get to be in that position if you don't have a fairly decent potential.

That being said I do agree that Paul Henry and other young players should be given a run in the team next season however, time will tell. The usual Moore tactics would to be either play them out of position of bring them on with 5 minutes to go!!

I can't form that much of an opinion on Ahmed because he's only played a few games in the first team. I know it's all we've got to go on, reserve team games, but a decent run in the first team might be what he needs. I honestly dont see whe point in bringing him in if he's going to sit in the reserves though. What a wasted season. Will it be the same this season?

That's a bit harsh isn't it? He's only played about 4 games at the most. And he was a good player as a youngster for Huddersfield. I don't rate him much either but we can't judge him given the fact he never plays. We could have seen how good or bad he was once our season was over and seen if he is as bad as you say he is but Ronnie didn't give any fringe players a chance.

Another piece of tactical genius by Ronnie Moore!

Not playing him isn't so much tactical genius as having two eyes to see with. I rarely make my mind up about a player and it's extremely rare that I criticise Tranmere players as I see them all through rose-tinted glasses. But I have formed a very specific opinion on this guy. He doesn't move right, he can't pass, so he's not going to be any use as a midfielder, or indeed any sort of footballer. Cover him in grey paint and tell him to move normally and he'd make a great human statue. He just looks awkward and I haven't seen redeeming features like athleticism or positional awareness that could compensate for it.

Anyway I'm sorry that I'm leading this thread away from the Ronnie stays, hip hip horray topic and towards the bash a waste of money reserve player.

On Ahmed, I've seen him play three times for Rovers. Once as a sub, then Doncaster away, where he was ineffectual in part due to a shocking ref Gavin Ward giving him no protection, the other at Swansea where he was one of our best players. I fear he's not up to coping with the physical nature of the game at this level, but Ronnie Moore should have given him more outings last season. Paul Henry is more of a defensive midfielder, hence his goalscoring not prolific, but a decent player imo
