...why these group of players are plying their trade in the third-tier rather than a higher level, which some of them clearly have the ability to do.

Who in our team has the ability to play at a higher level?

I honestly can't think of anyone

Back on topic, the wins for Walsall at home to the Blades and Yeovil away at Franchise (despite playing a half with 10 men) suggests that anyone can beat anyone on their day in this season's L1. It makes it crucial for Rovers to win one of the next two home games, getting this winless streak off our backs. Realistically, the survival target may be higher than the norm, because of the more even standard across L1

Exactly, Boz. Once we start winning, we'll probably continue. The trouble is that while a draw against Charlton, Carlisle or Notts Co is good for morale, it doesn't make much difference to our league position. Ideally, we need to beat our close rivals.

It's a very tough job for Ronnie in all honesty. I'm starting to think we should have made changes weeks ago.

I think by this time next week we will have a very good idea of our destiny. A minimum of four pints needed from the next two games.

We're now at the stage where we need to win games....draws will only see us fall into League 2. I think it is still possible for us to stay up - as long as we WIN at least 5 if not six of our remaining fixtures.

yes very true.we need at least 6 wins but it's not going to be easy.saturdays game is crucial just as tuesdays nights is as well.

i think tirrayki should get recalled from cambridge and start instead of brunt on saturday.enoch and tirayki sounds a good partnership.

Assuming that the safety mark is 52 points, 4 wins and 5 draws would get us there. However, the sooner we get that monkey off our back and win, the better.

My understanding is that emergency loans can't be recalled, so no Tiryaki until April. Given our lack of striking options, it remains a surprise that Les opted to loan him out. I wouldn't pin too much on his return, while Showumni is something of a busted flush. However Ronnie, as a former striker may be better equiped to work with and develop certain aspects of Mustafa's game. Cole Stockton is back from Vauxhall apparently and may be worth a place on the bench.

If we do go down, it is likely to be through a lack of goals scored, though Ronnie's arrival coincides with injuries to 2 wide players. If there is any money available for an emergency loan, a wide man who can chip in with the odd goal would be my pick.

Yeah, it's very clear we have a major problem up front, and I think it's also fair to say Brunt and Akins upfront is not the answer. Showumni has plenty of experience and can score goals and we should be using his as the main man up front with someone Ronnie can hopefully bring in to help out up front. Easier said than done though.

Like you say Boz, with the situation Ronnie is in, he's been really unlucky losing his 2 wide men, but whatever we do, we have to do it fast. The current squad still won't get us the goals we need to win games. At least Ronnie is trying to address this ASAP.

In an idle moment I've done a thimbleful of research on our plight...below are ten years' records of the FOURTH FROM BOTTOM points totals at the end of the season in the Championship, and then League One, both having 24 clubs etc. Nothing conclusive, of course, but only 20% of teams have been in the bottom four with more than 50 points (only once in League One since 2001-2002 season). So 16 more points from 12 games should do it. I say should......

Without stating the obvious it always lack of goals and too many draws which see many teams relegated from all the divisions. I don't think there is goals in the squad save for McGurk and then he would need to stay free of injuries and get played in a position where he may score from.

If Ronnie has actually said he is making a striker a priority I just wonder where he will look. I wouldn't mind finding a striker equivalent of Danny Holmes in non-league, who has stepped up to the level easily, although jury out on Tyriaki. Not sure about young Premier reserve/accademy types in such a desperate situation, although in contradiction I would like to see Stockton get a go.

Will he bring in ITM (if fit) to slot a few goals via a few cameo roles? :-k

See if Glasgow Rangers have got any second string they ned to off load?

STRIKER

If we are thinking about where we get a new striker from, how about one of the all time great Liverpool strikers who is looking for a game - Robbie Fowler? Contract until the end of the season - just keep us up Robbie. This suggestion will make a few people smile but he has to be to be better than some non-league striker or a Rangers cast off? A bit slower maybe but he always knew where the goal was. That is what we need right now -goals.
