For one minute, I never envisaged the manager would be one of those to leave, but for some very good reasons stated above, it may become reality. I think MP and MM also had their moments during the season (but you could probably say that about most managers and directors).
Will certainly be an interesting few weeks ahead.

If MM is serious about going then this may explain a few things on the recruitment front. Players who have not yet signed will be loath to commit themselves if a new managerial appointment is in the offing. As Ian says, this would just be typical Tranmere!

In fairness, I thought Micky was very well treated by the chairman, who backed him last October when so many of us were calling for his head. He provided the extra funds to bring in wingers so Micky could switch to 442. Palios must be one of the best owners any manager could work for. He knows the game and has the club,, not his ego, at heart. If the rumour is true, I expect it's because he and his family want to go home.

Your final comment is a fair one BBTC. If he does go I just hope we get someone else who is as committed to the cause.

I don’t think Micky has lived in Paisley for a considerable time, no idea about his family, so hard to say whether they are yearning to head north. If the chance came to manage at SPL, from an aspirational viewpoint could understand him wanting to give it a shot.

As others have alluded to, does this account for why recruitment/re-signings have slowed down? If MM is moving on, it needs to be soon, so that we can get a replacement in and build a side for L2. It will be hard to find as good a fit as Micky for the Rovers management role.

While I agree with BBTC’s comments regarding Mark Palios, his football background may scare some potential manager’s off.

Micky lives near the Blackpool/Fleetwood area.

I think altho he’s 3rd favourite, he’ll do well to get the Job ahead of some massive names including Alan Stubbs who did well at Hibs. Also the Coleraine manager who wants the job.

My gut feeling is he won’t be successful.

First time poster here :) I agree and think that MM was well treated by MP - many a Chairman would have sacked him given our terrible start to the season and the obvious failure of our new signings. I have never been his biggest fan as a result - if he were to move on I would not be devastated but would like others have said I would be very worried we would be losing much needed recruitment time whilst we ourselves recruit!

Welcome to the forums ADD. From what I believe, there was an issue regarding the many unsuccessful transfers we had last season as MP has always stated he would not get involved in transfer activity but may have been scratching his head regarding some of the signings as were we. I'd love to know what he thought about Alabi. Also according to some, there was a 'back me or sack me' showdown with the two when things weren't going so well earlier in the season. However, it's all just chit chat and may be well off the mark.

Personally I think MM deserved to be given time at the start of the season due to his heroics the season before - 92 points and a trip to Wembley albeit a defeat. It's still ridiculous that only the champions go up automatically.

Ultimately it proved the right decision. Yes some of his signings were questionable, but the fact is in 2 seasons we finished 2nd twice and got to Wembley twice - winning the second time. An excellent achievement.

Given he (I think) got Shrewsbury promoted from league 2, I'll be gutted if he leaves. Often you see a team get promoted in successive seasons due to momentum (or relegated as we know!) - I'm not saying we will, but we have a chance if we recruit well and keep the manager.

Its less likely if Micky goes. He is now the favourite with the likes of Skybet but has a lot of competition so lets hope it all comes to nothing.

Mellon has been brilliant for us, for all the reasons Sparky outlines and more. In addition to performances on the pitch in the last twenty months, he has repaired the relationship between the club and the fans which was generally appalling under his predecessors. He is as perfect a fit for Tranmere as you will find and I will be gutted if he goes.

With regard to recruitment, I would doubt there has been any negative impact at all. He has been for a job interview on his day off, but other than that I would guess it is simply business as usual at the club. Most of the deals we are pursuing will have been instigated days or weeks ago anyway.

Memories spring back to Lois Almond signing within days of Brabin being sacked!
If MM goes then, as with Cookie, he goes with mission accomplished and head held high.
But I trust the owners to pass the baton on.
If our worries are realised then, right this minute, I'd like to think the next boss is already with us....Jacko.
Did a spell at Shrews before MM took over and I'd rather see him, ex SWA player, cos I'm sure he'd maintain the passion and connection with fans.
Fingers crossed it'll soon be as we were.

Thinking about Micky, if he does leave it will be a first in all my time supporting Rovers. I don't remember a manager resigning and moving on before. Kingy retired and Aldo resigned, but neither managed again. All the others were sacked and none except Ronnie achieved much after Rovers.

I can't remember how Bryan Hamilton's tenure ended. I know he went to Wigan but did he resign?

Good shout. Hamilton did have success later at First Division and international level. I can't remember whether he was sacked, resigned or was poached by Wigan.
