Excuse my ignorance here but what was the problem with Dawson? I keep hearing he's a bad one but what has he done? (alledgedly as they say).

Given his history, I'm amazed we didn't sign him this time on loan. It was a major risk and Eastleigh must have had a chuckle at our expense.

Definitely the correct decision. Whether he has personal problems or is just a serial pi**taker I don't know, but Dawson had absolutely no intention of working for his money. He has behaved the same way at every club he has been at.

Total waste of money, one of many very bad signings under MM

I notice that Alabi did not even get off the bench for Dover today. I would be happy for him to go there permanently, or at least on an extended loan, if he is just going to be a squad player for them. I can't see him ever making it with us.

Depending on finances, I would prefer Mangan to be the player we bring off the bench at the end of games, with McDonough sent back to Forest. I don't know if it would be possible to bring him back and hold on to DMH, Banks and the rest, however.

100 per cent with you on that one RLC.
If we're only haggling over £10k, send Alabi back and say we thought it was try before you buy.
We know Mangs. We've seen him score. Alabi?

There's also Waring, whose loan spell at Halifax seems to have extended, though at least he's getting match time.

I'm not sure we'll be able to hang onto Banks, L1 player and with Hughes and Harris now available again. Not that I wouldn't like to.

As a minimum, I think we need to keep DMH and either bring back Mangan or bring in a loanee striker who provides better support to Cook and Norwood than Gerry. Putting Banks to one side, as he is a bit of a luxury, I would like us to do the following:

Keep: DMH, Cole, Mangan
Release (permanently or on a long term loan): Alabi, Waring, McDonough, possibly one of Green / Rokka

No idea if that is feasible.

some very good signings as well

Buxton and Norburn permanent signings good the rest poor or even worse, couple of good loan signings, so a lot more bad than good

I generally agree Mart. Poor recruitment in the summer and the fallout with Cook were the biggest reasons for our poor start, in my view.

Cole is good and I think Dunn may become a good player given better fitness and a decent run. But I agree that although the summer activity looked good on paper, the reality was different.

I am not at all convinced by Dunn. Neither a proper winger or a forward and I struggle to see how he fits into our style of play, like several of the other summer signings.

I agree that we should keep hold of Cole if we can. He scores goals and has the unpredictability which is unusual at this level.

Cole is nowhere near fit enough, Dunn is injury prone and does very little

Cole is a good player. He won't be costing us much and it is worth keeping him longer so he builds up his fitness.

He has already made an impact from the bench, scoring a couple of important goals.

Cole is out injured atm and that might work in our favour, as his chances of putting himself on the shop window have been reduced. I’d certainly like to keep him for the rest of the season.

While whoever was responsible for recruiting players in the summer ought to have known the type of striker Alabi was, there can be no excuse for not knowing about Dunn, after his loan spell. Can play as a wide player, but isn’t really. Best behind the front two, but Connor Jennings does that better, arguably so do Tollitt and Kirby when fit.
