Valuable point. Sounds like Rovers were the stronger in the first half, despite what sounded an odd penalty awarded against Joss. Second half mainly Swindon, Wood cleared off the line, they hit the woodwork, rash of bookings, though McGurk nearly scored at the death.

Our bench worried me, I'd have had Benson/Power to give us more of a defensive option rather than Mackreth.

Hopefully Evo will give us the full chapter and verse of events at the County Ground.

Strange that there was no Alan Mahon on the bench. Not injured again?!
Excellent point though, and it sounded like Rovers had some really good chances.

They finished the first half really well seemingly putting a lot of pressure on the Swindle defence.

Likewise they put us under some pressure in the second and Warner made a handful of excellent saves plus the penalty save!

Two clean sheets without Goodison. I think that shows the quality Les has brought in with Kay and McChrystal slotting in well.

Gutted McGurk's effort didnt go in as it was sailing for the top corner. Great save by Phil Smith in goal.

Well done Rovers =D>

Two nice galleries here. Might make you feel a little closer to the action!

A very good point. Two clean sheets in a row, which just shows how much of an impact Warner / McChrystal / Taylor sitting in front of the back four has made. Warner apparently had another great game tonight, and hopefully we can tie him and McChrystal up on longer deals soon.

It sounded like we should have been one up at half time with Lateef and Jennings causing them many problems. Slightly disappointing that we again seemed to drop deep with twenty five minutes to go, despite the fact we had controlled the game for an hour.

I cursed when McGurk came on to play down the left, but he produced a great effort which nearly nicked the game. Does this suggest he could actually be the one of our benchwarmers that has a bright future ?

We now have a great chance to push into mid table with the two home games coming up.

To answer Mal's question from the pre-match thread (now closed), the last time we kept two consecutive clean sheets without Goodison was less than two years ago (Feb 2009). Mind you, we had Chorley and Antony Kay in those days.

Another question might be when was the last time we kept a clean sheet with three defenders who have only 15 league appearances between them (Michael Kay, Wood, McChrystal)?

Have i missed a review of the game or am i looking in the wrong spot?

I think 0-0 at swindle is a good result, and if asked before the game, then yes i would have taken it.

If we can scrape the odd draw away from home, banng in a few at home and beat a few of the teams lower down the division, we are home and dry.

Also, 9 points of the playoffs!!!! \\:D/:-k the permitations are !!

But hey, the only down side was the amount of bookings, and how that can hurt closer to the end of the season.

I think anyone mentioning the play-offs need their head examining. The reason why we have been struggling to get out of the bottom five all season is due to our inconsistency. There will be a good run of results followed by a bad run of results. I think what I'm trying to say is we are consistently inconsistent. :-k

My first thought had been what about the season when the Higgy/Vickers pairing was replaced by Garnett/McGreal. But that's not it because the full backs either side remained the same, Ian Nolan and Tony Thomas.

I was under the impression McCrystal has played for some other league clubs previously? If he has then is the question have only made 15 appearances for tranmere or for any league club? If it's haven't made 15 appearances for tranmere, then could have happened near the start of any season with a lot of changes of personnel, as under Aldo and little brian especially.

The whole matchday experience was superb, Champagne on arrival, 3 course meal, refreshments at half time, cheese board at full time. A tour of the ground with a pre match briefing from the manager! ( Funnily enough Shirtliff was doing this as Wilson was bollocking a certain Mr Austin ) Followed by a meet and greet with some of the players! Interesting to note i didnt see any of the tranmere directors at all and i was hoping to have a word with Les at some point but the Tranmere players didnt come up afterwards. Spoke To John Welsh before the game to see what he thought and he said we were confident of going for the win which was encouraging to hear.

The game itself was fairly good i honestly thought there would be goals and it certainly wasnt a 0-0 game, There keep Smith was utter rubbish all night untill the last kick off the game where he pulls off a great save! First half i'd like to think we shaded it we actually played some nice football was encouraging to see that we wanted to get it down and look to play, Dont know what the hell Joss was thinking when he decided to dribble the ball back into our area and then trip timlin to give away a penalty! Thankfully Warner was equal to Austins penalty otherwise the scoreline would have looked a lot different,Thought we were unlucky not to get a penalty when Enoch went down.

Second half Swindon outplayed us, Think we settled for the draw with about 15 minutes to go so cant complain to much with that. Luckily for us Austin wasnt on form as with the missed penalty he nearly won the game for them with Drogba esque bit of skill and shot which hit the underside of the bar and went out!

Tranmere Players,

Warner - Solid Keeper, flapped at a corner but after that decided to punch clear corners and crosses, Thought he had a good game.

Kay Mcrystal Wood Cresswell all played very well i thought, Cresswell got beat a couple of times in the first half and he strikes me as more of a midfielder than a left back, Wood and Mcchrystal looked very solid at centre back and dealt superbly with Austin, They headed balls clear and picked passed well enough. Kay looks a good player he had a solid game, Not sure if it was him or creswell in the second half who kept getting done by the fast winger they brought on but i actually thought on the whole the back 4 did well - Clean sheet away from home superb

Welsh - worked tirelessly was really impressed with his work ethic he had a couple of good long range efforts passed the ball well and battled hard

Labadie - with the exception of the moment of madness with the penalty he played well linked the midfield and defence and the attack well, great bit of business getting him in!

Taylor - Again a solid performace came back and helped the defence out when needed solid performance without being spectacular

Jennings - Greedy, This isnt a dig but he has to pass the ball more, he has certainly got some talent dont get me wrong but a couple of times he took players on which is great and we dont see enough of it from players these days but he had the opportunity to pass and he wanted to go alone. Certainly a good prospect and i think he will go places

Showunmi - Swindon fans were really impressed by him as was i, He looked good yesterday held the ball up took players on didnt really have any chances though which was a bit dissapointing

Elford Alliyu - He put in a very good shift yesterday was impressed with him. Worked tirelessly and he was "busy" always looking to take people on linked up well with enoch, would have been nice to see him and jennings switch sides though throught the game think that would have been effective!

All in All a good performance away from home, Think we will be safe as long as we stay injury free

Taken Lp over a year to get an experienced Goaly in after danny coyne !

imagine the boardroon/managemnt discussion, na we don,t need to pay for a proper keeper there are loads of up and coming keepers in the premiership, lets borrow one or two of these useless young overrated talentless players.

Poor managament imop!

we stand a chance of defending properly now and a real chancse for warner to get his career back on track, but then again a bit of a journey man?

Good luck !

Daniels (not a Parry signing but spent the majority of last season playing under him) and Gulasci were both very good imo. Warner looks good too. Can't really make an evidence based argument about youth versus experience on this one I don't think. Besides, I was much more excited by the prospect of Neilson than Warner - goes to show you don't really know what you're getting in the loan market sometimes.

Certainly pleased with the away draw and clean sheet. Thanks to all for the reports.

Kay and Wood made their senior debuts this season for us. McChrystal has played in the Irish League, the League of Ireland and a few times in the Scottish League First Division (second tier), but he had never played senior football in England before joining us.
